Hello fellow BA expats,

We're the Martinez family from Cincinnati, OH. We just arrived in BA a few days ago for a planned stay of 5 months. We have 2 girls, 6 and 3. We want to learn spanish, meet new friends and have a new adventure that we'll always remember.

We're living in Alto Palermo near Vamos.
We'd love advice on activities for the kids, inexpensive places to eat, playgroups for the kids, and general advice for us as we try to learn the area.

My husband found a couple of language options for the kids: EBA Trust and VOS Spanish. Anyone have any experience with either of those or others that might be good opportunities for them to learn spanish and get comfortable here quickly

I can't give you any advice on your questions, but just welcome you.
I hope you enjoy your stay here.
If you need anything, just let me know as I'm a local.
best wishes

Hello, fellow Cincinnatian! :)

I've been living in BsAs for almost 4 years, but I grew up in the 'Nati until I went away to college (I lived in the neighborhood of Montgomery and attended school in the Sycamore School district).

I'm sorry I can't give advice on language schools, but just wanted to give a friendly "hello!"

I hope you enjoy Argentina!

Hi there! I have been here for about a month and had put both our children in Amauto Spanish School in Belgrano. Our children had nice teachers there in particular they really liked Omar from Colombia and Marialena (but she has left now). Each session is 50 minutes (not a full hour). With the issues with the subways and not able to get consistent hours week after week we are looking at moving our children to VOS in Recoleta. We toured VOS and met with them. I left feeling that they really seem to understand how to teach children a second language. They recommended we put our children in separate classes since their abilities in Spanish vary and also the older sibling / younger sibling dynamic. At first I was hesitant to buy into that idea but after 3 weeks at Amauta I noticed my older child had a stronger command of the language but my younger one felt very content in having everything translated for him and wasn't getting as much out of it. On the down side of VOS, it has a steep circular staircase to reach the office and classrooms but they have always been very helpful and patient in answering my dozens of questions.
