Watching in direct the Pope meeting in Aparecida Church in Brazil? Thousands of White upper middle class faces. Not a single mulato, African descent pilgrim?? Any ideas?

Maybe tomorrow goes to the Favelas B)

Aparecida is in Sao Paulo State where population of European origin is around 80% if I am not mistaken.

LOTS of white people live in the favelas of Rio. Most came from Northern Brazil and pushed the African-descendents out into the boonies so they could have closer access to work as porteros and such for the luxury buildings in Rio.

What's your point, Rich One? Is the Pope a racist? I don't think so. He's been reaching out to the poor for a long time. What would you have him do different? How better can he show solidarity with the poor?

Maybe handing out condoms, so they don't continue to breed like rats.

The difference between this Pope and Benedict XVI is night and day.
Francisco has that uncanny ability to reach out to everyone in the same way as John Paul.
I really don't see your point Rich One.

The organizers should have presented a balanced crowd... Sure Francisco was not pleased to see the poor and underprivileged absent....!

Loved the cover of Fortune Magazine:
New CEO in chief.
Is the pope good or bad? Nice debate for the dinner table. Kind of like asking if you would liket to drink a beer with a politician.
Is the church good or bad? That is the question. Is the church corrupt? Does its policies cause harm? Does it hurt women? Does it fetishize sex and virginity? Cult of shame cause guilt? Is it the biggest arms dealer in the world?
I see this pope as a last stand to reverse the dropping numbers of Catholics. Lets see if it works of if people start thinking for themselves. I say this as an ex-Catholic: after quiting smoking, best decision I ever made.

He's in Varginha, happy now? How many symbolic gestures will it take to convince you cynics that he's for real?
