Free or Cheap Spanish Classes in BA

So I went to lenguas Vivas today and the march/april classes have already started and are full! if anybody wants to register for the next semester, the registration date is May 14th!

My Spanish teacher is Sandra Gonet at Bueno Dale (http://www.baspanishlessons.com/). Prices are fairly reasonable and more importantly she structured the lessons in a way that made them fun and interesting.

It's easy to get burned out with classes or bored but with this school the conversations were never dull and you are constantly conversing in the language.

My partner is a private spanish tutor who has taught some other people on this forum. He is very reasonable, considering he is gaining experience while studying at the top teacher's college in BA.

As of April 2012, his rate is $35 pesos / hour.

International House in Belgrano has a teacher training center which offers free Spanish (and free English) classes. http://www.ih-buenosaires.com/

I believe the course is already full, but you can inquire about upcoming openings. It is taught by people who are training to become spanish teachers, so the quality can vary, but it is generally quite good. Right now, the courses meet weekly on Fridays from 2-4pm. They are only offered in two levels (beginner and intermediate), so if your level is at least intermediate, you'll probably be bored.

they were terrible with me. I would not recommand. I wrote a thread on it ("Bad school").

The teacher is Damian, he is amazing. I have classes in the evenings (4 hours a week) on Mondays and Weds. If you contact him he will be able to find your level and find a class for you for your availability. I would recommend him to everyone. The classes are really fun, grammar based but with lots of practice so not solely for conversation (but you can have that with anyone here) His classroom/institute is Santa Fe and San justo de Oro so super convenient for most (buses and subte super close)

My friend who lived in BA two years ago told me this was THE PLACE to go esp for price! Did you manage to find out how much it was and when the clases (not registration) start?

I'm currently at UBA doing the 2 month intensive course and it's pretty good. The classes can go up to 12/13 depending on how many people turn up tbh if you're at a fairly low level I think private classes intensively for maybe two weeks is best and then maybe go with a group class so you can skip the lower levels. The clases is pretty much just conversation - based around either homework you had or work done in the previous class.

UBA has 8 levels.

hey all,
I lived here from August-November last year and took classes with a private tutor for 60 pesos/hour, once a week. I studied a lot online, including lots of slang and lunfardo and practiced as much as I could. Now I'm back, after 2 months away, and dating an Argy who speaks perfect English, and have not resumed classes, and I'm speaking English most of the time. Very lazy, I know.

I'm looking to get back in to Spanish classes for the cheapest way possible.
I know that UBA has classes for cheap (when you do the math it comes out to about 20 pesos/class). I want to take classes at their Centro Armenio location to save me the trip downtown, but for now, I only see bimestral (two month) classes for April/May. I'm going on holiday next week and would like to start with those classes if they have bimestral offerings for anytime in May/June/July. Does anyone know anything about this? Any first-hand experiences?

Then a friend mentioned today that her French boyfriend is doing FREE(!) classes at the local high school. Just like high schools in the states, there are high schools here (the one in question was in Recoleta) that offer 'adult education' -type courses. Cooking, dancing, whatever, AND language classes!! Including Spanish for foreigners. She told me to ask around to the high schools in my neighborhood, but I thought I'd start here.

I'm in Las Cañitas and could go for anything in this or the Belgrano or Alto Palermo/ Palermo Viejo neighborhoods. Any leads? I want group classes. No private Spanish schools (unless their prices can compete with UBA's). Sorry if I sound cheap but well, ya know...

Hi Lucha! I'd love to know the name of the high school that your friend's French boyfriend went to in La Recoleta! I'm moving there soon and looking for a cheaper way to learn Spanish than the UBA.
