General Anaesthetic Experience Here?

I won't have this argument again. "Supernatural" beings aside... Obama's policies are terrible. And he has continued to take away personal freedoms, despite saying he wouldn't do it. Now try to twist my words again.

In reality, the health care reform has expanded our freedoms by reducing the arbitrary denial of health coverage by insurance companies. It's not perfect, but it's a huge step in the right direction.

It increases the burden on small businesses. It doesn't take away any prerogatives that big pharma and insurance companies have. It only forces employers to pay for it. There's so much wrong with it that I wouldn't know where to start. And again, you can't force a doctor to go against his religious beliefs and force him to perform procedures he doesn't agree with. Adding up the increasing cost of keeping their office open, plus extra regulation and taking away their freedom like that don't be surprised when all the good doctors leave. Now I'm totally in favor of a TRUE reform. But that has to change everything. You want socialized medicine. Perfect! Just go the whole way. This guy's plan keeps the same f***ed up system with a few changes and while it will provide benefits for full time employees, it will end up costing jobs, putting small businesses out of business and most importantly many full time employees will lose hours, they will no longer be full time and they will be back to square one. I wonder if you just repeat what you hear like a mantra, or if you actually know what you're talking about.

I hear this all the time. You realize that the employer mandate only affect businesses with more than 50 people. Do you know what percentage of "small businesses" have less than 51 employees? 96% OF SMALL BUSINESSES HAVE LESS THAN 51 EMPLOYEES AND WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THE MANDATE. Sorry for yelling but seriously - it's rather important info don't you think? Oh and wait - of the 4% of the businesses that are affected by the mandate - 96% of them already offer health care coverage. So in total 4% of the 4% will be impacted by this madate. Not exactly major impact on small businesses in the US.

ETA - Sorry to the OP for the tangent, it just makes me crazy when I read stuff that has zero basis in fact.

Funny how every post against me tries to make me look bad and not make Obama and Obamacare look good. If you want to settle this matter tell me how does this horrible piece of legislation address the problems that actually started the thread. I don't know what's wrong with some people, I simply agreed to what ghost said and mentioned that Obamacare was going to make it worse (it is), I've done nothing but trying to be friendly around here but some people don't like to hear different opinions. It's so cool and hip to be on Obama's side, but you know, I was tired of having this conversations back in the US and I don't plan on having too many of them here. At least in TX you could speak freely without obamabots coming out of nowhere. With all due respect citygirl, you got involved in this thread now at least have the decency of answering my questions instead of attacking me. Obama's horrible policies regarding small business cost me my small business. You can't say he's good for small business. You can't say his healthcare plan is good. I know he gets people's hopes up, he is a great public speaker but many things including obamacare are simply horrible. Do you know about the panels that will decide if an elderly patient gets treatment or not based on financial cost vs age and other factors. What abbout religious freedom for doctors and nurses. Do you want your country to become a place where people who have a different opinion are forced by law to go against their principles?

Oh yes, the death panels!!!

Efforts to discredit Obama, and repeated futile attempts to repeal the health care law, are far more important than pesky facts.

I do not engage in personal attacks but, if I were a medical doctor, I fear I'd have to say that "There's nothing more I can do for you."

Internationalguy - since the mandate hasn't been rolled out yet, can you explain to me how it ruined your business? It hasn't gone into effect yet so I'm a little puzzled by your statement. So while I will make every effort to answer your questions, I'd appreciate you answering that one.

As for the rest, I'm pretty sure if you read my posts - I don't love the bill . I think it was gutted and many of the necessary things were taken out of it. Nor do I think Obama was/is the greatest president ever. The deck was stacked against him coming in b/c I think people had unrealistic expectations of what he (or any president) could do to turn the economy around, esp a relative rookie in politics and in such a divided and extremist political climate.

Secondly - the "death panels" don't exist, were never proposed to exist and never will. And do I want doctors to perform services that are against their religious beliefs? 100% absolutely if it is a medical procedure allowed by law. If a doctor doesn't want to perform a service (and I'm guessing we're talking about abortion here), s/he can go work in a religious hospital where it isn't allowed/offered. But if s/he takes the decision to work in a secular institution - then yes, I want my doctors to offer me EVERY AVAILABLE AND LEGAL MEDICAL TREATMENT. Period. No discussion. They don't have to be doctors, they don't have to work in a secular institution but once they make those choices, then they have to follow the rules.

As for the rest - do I think Obama is good for business? I don't think any president has a lot to do with any business climate. I look at the legislative bodies for that. Do I think the economy is in better shape than it was? Yes but there is a long, long way to go.

For what it's worth - I think the biggest issue affecting small businesses is taxes. Fix the tax laws so small/mid sized businesses don't bear the full tax burden (b/c I can assure you no Fortune 1000 company is paying the full corporate profit taxes).

And I am always happy to have a civil discussion based in facts. There is plenty to like/not like about this administration and what it has done. But let's talk about the realities, not just false talking points that have no basis in reality.

"At least in TX you could speak freely without obamabots coming out of nowhere."

For the love of Ann Richards, don't bring Texas into this!

Personally, Obamacare seems to be a bit vague. Where can we go to read up on it? Someone posted earlier about if you are living in a foreign country. I know everyone must be covered, does that mean I will have to be covered in the USA even though reside in Argentina?

It seems like a pretty complex piece of legislation. Therein lies whatever my criticisms for Obamacare would be. If a law or plan is too complex, it may not be so effective. It sounds like there are good and bad things and compromises all rolled into this legislation. I think time will tell if was a good idea or not, but in the meantime, I find myself a bit pessimistic about this law, and for now I'm happy about my Argentine health care. Time will tell I guess.

I certainly have criticisms for Obama, but to his credit, at least he tried to do something about this situation. I'm not sure I agree with his remedy, but something has to be done. One of the most important purposes of government is to correct social injustices and inequalities, and healthcare in the US has gotten way out of hand. Healthcare is like food, water, and shelter. Without it, you die. So when someone says, "I can charge whatever I want, whenever I want," for your health, you are going to have to pay it. I think at this point the government can step in and say, "You can charge less and still make a big profit." It's a tough line to decide though, because some of those remarkable medical advancements might never have come without lots of money.

On the other hand, I consider my Argentine medical care to be superior to the US care, personally. I pay far less and am able to get incredible medical service from first rate doctors. Maybe when they were drafting the Obamacare law they should have taken a look at Argentina, a third world country that gives superior care to its citizens at 1/4 or less of the cost. AND they make fantastic medical discoveries all the time here. Maybe instead of spending money on un-manned drones that drop bombs on people we should spend it on some cheaper healthcare.
