Julia Horn a 19 year old tourist from Germany has been missing since last Thursday. She had planned to go trekking at the Tres Marias National Park.
Local authorities were notified after she failed to return to the house where she was staying. Her cell phone stopped communicating at 15:34 Thursday.
A helicopter, drones and a K9 unit were brought in to help with the search but heavy fog was hampering the task. Ms Horn was doing volunteer work for the ONG YFU. Members of her family arrived today from Germany to help with the search.

Third person to die in the past six years while trekking on that unimpressive little mountain. The other two slipped and fell 30 meters to their deaths.

Wondering what makes it so dangerous. It is only 1000 mts. high, and the path is well marked and much used.

Trekking and off roading (in a 4x4 vehicle) are incredibly dangerous if someone naively decides to undertake those activities by themselves; ALWAYS go with at least one other person and preferably with many others and/or a qualified local guide. In addition, whether on foot or in a 4x4, always pack enough water, food and warm clothing to survive a night or two in the wilderness in the event an incident occurs. The Andes region is one of the most isolated and inhospitable places on the planet and that reality must be respected and prepared for to avoid worse case scenarios.

Weather? I don't know, just asking. Ireland's highest mountain, Carrantuohill / Corrán Tuathail, is also a piddling 1000m high, but has its own mountain rescue team and has claimed 40 lives over the last 50 years or so. The weather there is extremely changeable.
