I understand you can switch the sim card, but first the phone has to be unlocked (which can only be done with a connection). Does anyone have any insight into making this work? A place I could get it hacked, for instance?

Methods might depend on what type of iphone is it (1st gen, 3G, 3GS, 4G)

Easiest first step is to jailbreak. It's free and a simple google search will help you out. You used to be able to just point your iphone browser to jailbreak.me, but that site no longer is up.

Here's a step-by-step guide that will help you:

If you're using an iphone 4, it's a bit tricky. The iphone 4 uses a microsim card, which is smaller. So it means getting a new sim card and shaving it down in size to fit in the slot. For the older phones, it's just getting an activated sim card, and slipping it in the slot. just need to buy some cheap GSM pay-as-you-go phone and pull the card out once you've unlocked.

Good luck!

I got my AT&T phone working here a few months ago. Are you at all technical?

Contact MacDaddy. He unlocked mine, reliable and inexpensive. You can PM him on this forum. Good luck.
