Getting Home Internet in Buenos Aires

If you got 300 mbs over coaxial cable, I bow down before you.
Nobody in my building, or in my immediate neighborhood, ever got close.
I literally ran tests that came up 3. Three Mbs.

A lot of these internet providers require me to have a cell phone number in Argentina before I can get more information.
Could you recommend a prepay cell phone service that will give me a number?
Once I have a number I'm thinking it might be easier to get more information?

Check with your portero . In buildings with more than 4 units, internet providers usually have a connection box already installed. The portero can tell you which companies have coverage in your building.

There are two major residential internet providers - Personal and Telecentro. "No Fibra Óptica" doesn't necessarily mean there's no broadband internet connection available. “Fiber optics” availability depends on the area, but even without it, Telecentro often offers decent speeds (like 300 Mbps) over coaxial TV cable.

You don’t need a DNI to get internet service - you can usually sign up with your passport.


You will probably need to get a local phone number anyway.

How do you set up utilities in Buenos Aires?
Once I arrive I'll get a phone with a number from one of the providers.
But do I have to physically go to an office to have that set up? And if I do, I assume I need my Passport, Rental Agreement with my Address on it.

For internet providers, once you check service availability by submitting a form on their website, they usually call you within an hour to arrange the installation. You can also call their 0800 number, and most companies have a WhatsApp chatbot you can use to schedule the service installation visit - WhatsApp is very popular here.

They typically don’t ask for a rental agreement, having access to the apartment is usually enough to set up the service.

Physically going to the office can work too, though it's hit or miss. Sometimes you show up and they just point to a phone and say, "Pick up the handset and talk to the operator."

If the service is registered under someone else’s name, only the account holder can make changes. Usually, they don’t bother transferring the account - they just let you pay the bills directly, or they pay and ask you to reimburse them.

Who can you get internet from with just a passport? I have not been able to get my apartment setup because I have not received my DNI yet.
