Hi,

I've been looking around for good places to buy book this time coming back to the city. So far I only know Corrientes and a few in Sarmiento & Callo. Also there are those stands in parks and santa fe what so not. I'm looking for a more traditional and preferably independent establishments with a good stock of literature and philosophy books. I'm wondering if any long term resident or exchange student here can give me some ideas, as I really need them. Many thanks in advance.

The prettiest one and one of the biggest if not the biggest is El Ateneo on Santa Fe near Riobamba, but it's new books, not used.

There are several others in this area if you look. One on Ayacucho between Arenales and Juncal that has old books. Another very big one on Santa Fe as you're walking from Pueyrredon to Callao, on the first or second block on the left side I don't remember exactly where or the name. It's cavernous with books stacked to the ceiling.

in junin between juncal and arenales there is a bookstore with old books.

Thank you both, I will definitely try to check them out this week :)

Where are the ones on Corrientes?

You´ll find the librerías in Corrientes between Callao and Cerrito (7 blocks approx).

This is very small but good one (used books): Librería Legenda, in Charcas 3279, between Coronel Diaz and Billinghurst.

Hello, my preferred bookstore in the city is on Thames y Russel in Palermo Soho. It is called Pasaje del Libros and it has a huge collection of books for a small store. It has Wifi and a cafe area, a separate bar area to work or read serving great coffee and light meals. It has a good selection of English books also, including translations of Latin American authors work. Its my favourite place to sit and work in the city. Very relaxed and the best one I've found, although I see a few similar ones which would be worth trying. The books are new not used. I hope this helps!!

The Walrus bookstore in San Telmo is a good one... they also often have posts on Cragslist with their most recent books in store...

I typed up a list of my favorite bookstores, then realized this thread is a year and a half old. However, I will still share it. If anyone has any other favorites, please share.

La Barca

Has a pretty good selection of philosophy, history, and literature.

Eterna Cadencia

Probably has the best selection of literature and philosophy (in Palermo at least). My 2nd favorite.

Crack-Up

My personal favorite, although smaller with less selection. It has a little cafe in front.

Libros del Pasaje

As mentioned above, this is a great place to hang out also.
