Good Tea

my students and I love mate cocido -mate in tea bags- para Ninios (for kids) brand TARAGUI, con miel y vainilla (mate bit a tiny bit of Vanilla and Honey)....it is fantastic! a hidden secret since I am over 40

Tealosophy is a specialist tea shop, they have stores in Alvear and Palermo and are opening more around the city I think. They sell loose tea (and it is certainly not cheap) but Ines Berton (the owner) also does two brands available in supermarkets. They are called IntiZen and Chamana (infusions). I have tried some of the IntiZen range and it's nice but the tea available in the Tealosophy store is much nicer, just depends on the budget!

Does anyone have anymore updates on good tea in BA since 2014? We have just moved here last month and my hubby (a tea drinker) is nearly out of his precious supply. He'd like a strong British type tea..... Any further suggestions?

GREEN HILLS is the one I think is closest to British teas . I have even stopped asking friends to bring over Tetleys when they visit...

Taraguí black tea is good enought, a little bit redish and unique taste. Try to buy a fresh box.

The escuela argentina de te, located in Rosario is serious and well known and I was told that they sell different blends.

The japanese embassy offers a tea ceremony open to the public every friday morning, you have to call in advance to make a reservation, they will ask for your DNI / ID /passport number. That is a good opportunity to enjoy and ask for advice.

I always have lavander, rosa mosqueta, and natural herbs like cedron, menta piperita to prepare my own "blends".

Taste wise its pretty good, but i find it doesnt have the strength of Tetleys or PG Tips. Still cant live without my imported tea bags, but Green Hills is the best emergency tea bags i`ve found locally.

Heredia has a decent Earl Grey and it's become my standby tea that doesn't require me spending a fortune on imported Twinings...

Green Hills, Lipton, Taragui, and Virginia all need about 3 tea bags to make a decent cup.

Recently I found Delhi Tea and bought their Indian Chai and it is good, they have some herbal teas if thats your thing, it isn't mine at all. I will be clear, I do not like raspberry, lavender, etc bs teas. I am an English Breakfast / Earl Grey / and preferably just a plain old PG tips original type.

Intizen I believe they have on that they market as black tea and as mentioned is ok. I found an english breakfast once by Virgin Islands that was ok but again needed multiple tea bags. I like my tea both strong AND milky, something that just isn't possible with even the most "high end" Argentine brands, yet a PG Tips which is by no means a specialty tea can manage no problem???

Heredia is in Walmart, I believe it's also coming into Jumbo now. It sells at random places, check out a dietetica near you, most likely you will find it,, it is in an orange box.

Otherwise there is a place on Santa Fe and Uruguay that sells natural foods and sandwiches / sushi / salads to go that has the Delhi Teas / Heredia as well as a decent selection of other brands I have yet to try. http://www.delimarket.com.ar/contacto.html -- they have a couple of other branches. they don't list their teas on the site.

Delhi Tea -- they don't have black but they have green tea. They also have a bunch of flavoured teas. They actually claim they have a Rooibos tea but I HIGHLY doubt that it is rooibos.

Like many other things here it seems to me that Argentines really like sweet teas (the types I find horrible, I have never been an herbal tea fan, chai is the sweetest I will go).

Well now of course after writing all of this I am going to go put on the kettle.

I can't live without multiple cups of tea every day. The best I have found, without breaking the bank, is Taragui English Breakfast or Taragui International. Although not up to English standards it is not too bad.

Brought a few boxes of Red Rose - normal orange pekoe tea sold in Canada.

Nothing specialty at all, but it's normal black tea without rusted iron powder mixed in, which is more than La Virginia can boast of. That stuff is hideous.
