What you have to say is more or less true, but the condescension really isn't necessary.
It's very possible to get a nice studio (about as one-bedroom as it gets...) in Palermo and Recoleta anywhere from $500-$1000 USD -- even through an agency.
I think I've stated this before, but I rented two studios last year. One at Larrea and French for $500/month and then another at Uriburu and Las Heras for $550/month, all expensas included.
You can find even better deals if you get out of tourist central. A friend of mine from California and I stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment last year in Caballito for 2 months at $700/month. There was a living room, full kitchen, washer, internet... the works.
