Happy Argentina!!

To complement,

According to your survey, Yemen is a place as happy as Canada. Yemen! Saudi Arabia and Iran too, by the way. If you are a woman, you should definitely move there and enjoy a life of full happiness under a burka.

If that does not spell bullshit to you. I do not know what else will.

Are you so blinded by ideology that you can't read ? The index is a composite of more factors than happiness:

http://www.happyplanetindex.org/data/#table-view

Go there and sort by "Experienced well-being". Now, show me where any of those countries are higher than Canada, at number 2 after Denmark???

To be honest, what the study shows is that people generally can be happy or miserable with no direct correlation to economic policies or performance.

You'll also notice that all the countries in the top dozen or more have very strong welfare states and high levels of social spending. Not everything in life can be measured in dollars and cents, and not everything is black and white.

I believe the survey tells something important: people from third-World countries are happy with less. People from First-World countries are spoilt, too egoist and have forgotten a long time ago what is really important in life (surely not having 10 different mustard brands in the supermarket!!!)

Exactly. That is why thousands of the "happy people" from the third world cross the mediterranean towards the "unhappy" north every day.

What about premix pancake batter? I think it was decided in this forum that it was an important civil right, right up there with buying foreign currency. :D

What does it have to do? They are asked right and now whether they are happy or not. Even in poor conditions and without having the garage full of junk they say yes.
Moreover, there are many who do go back.

Right, we all know that happiness can only be measured in economic terms and market "freedom". Damn those tree hugging hippies!
Your reply bears little relation to my post. I never said anything about "economics" or "market freedom".

Right, you actually didn't really say anything:

Another completely useless survey.

So my reply bears little relation to your post, which in turn bears little relation to any meaningful statement, so I'd say we're even! :D

I can't believe people are arguing about this. It's just another meaningless, uncorroborated and biased survey. Here is the basis on which the results are calculated (quote):

"samples of around 1000 individuals aged 15 or over in each of the countries"

1000? As far as our fair city is concerned: 1000 in Zona Norte or 1000 in Lanús?

That's not an unusually small sample size for an international survey.

Statistical significance isn't just the sample size -- a properly randomized sample group of 1,000 is very accurate. For example, in a population of 44 million, at 95% confidence level with a confidence interval of 3% you only need a sample size of 1067.

Also, can you explain why you think it is biased and uncorroborated?

Compare that index not with per capita income but with literacy and internet access.

Ignorance is bliss, that should explain it
