Not that you would notice it, but technically this is the 195th anniversary of the day that Spain recognized nearly all of the land that would become Argentina as "Independent". The country wasn't really a unified country for a long time, but this is still the reason that there's an image of a building in Tucuman on the 50 centavo coin.

So "Feliz Dia de la Independencia!"

Now I have to go find an alternative place to buy some cheese for the party tonight.

Friends of America invites you to celebrate the independence of Argentina and the United States with the American community in Buenos Aires.

There will be live music with pop rock band Santa Bicicleta and presentation of their new video. Mar Schmittner acts as guest DJ.

Friends of America is an organization of citizen diplomacy led by Fernando Leon, sponsored by the Embassy of the United States and global leadership network IVLP of the United States Department of State.



The big event is the International Festival of Military Bands on Sunday, July 10th at the Polo grounds in Palermo.

200 YEARS TOGETHER

We celebrate 200 years of independence with a Grand Parade of Bands by av. Del Libertador and you're invited.

Various bands from 10 countries will march in this historic parade.

See you on Sunday July 10 at 11 am from Av. Del Libertador 2000 to the Argentine Polo Field.

The parade starts at Sanchez de Bustamante, continuing to Dorrego. You'll be able to see and hear along del Libertador along 20 or more blocks.
