Havana, Cuba

Speaking as a non-Cuban woman who was assumed to be Cuban (and therefore for sale or rent) while in Cuba... these men look really sad and desperate from the woman's perspective!

How I laughed at the men who thought that they could buy me for a few dollars - I gave them a piece of my mind free of charge and sent them packing! It was really upsetting for some of the serious and studious Cubanas I met, however, to see how these near-untouchables assumed that they were for sale without the women having given them any indication of such (and, in many cases, they were with their male partners at the time).

Have fun, guys!

Friends say, Havana is the best place on earth, right now, for lonely men like me!

A friend goes to Havana all the time , he carries suitcases full of cosmetics, tooth paste, spices, canned food, medications, also "Nylon stockings" its like GI's in Italy 1945...!! (not funny ) . I of cry for the suffering of Cuban people... . VIVA LA REVOLUCION , VIVA FIDEL
Can you enjoy sex with someone that needs pair of stockings??

Bear in mind that US citizens can not travel to Cuba!! Its illegal. Credit cards from US banks are not acceptable.

Check the link www.absolut-cuba.com/ full of comments on the subject , in Spanish! on prices, pick-up points, motels, etc?

BTW take your plentiful supply of rubbers and antibiotics....

As for the cost aside of day to day items, I haven´t been lately but I heard prices for foreigners was quite high now.
Again, things like that can change on a dime, so you´re best to check with some one who´s been very recently - or online.
Yes, I think Cuba´s perhaps the best- or one of the best places - on earth for a lonely anyone who wants anyone.
Even today, Cuba´s one of the safest countries in the western hemispherse, aside from Canada.
That´s why (according to official stats), tourism in Cuba has increased about 6 fold since the 1950s.

Tourism is one of Cuba´s biggest sources of income, so I´d have to say increasing tourism is one of the Revolution´s
biggest accomplishments.

So many Cubans talk of wanting to marry "their" foreigner, but bear in mind there are usually ulterior motives. If
the foreigner was willing to live in Cuba, bear in mind that if you buy a house, the Cubana may well divorce you in a
few months and she will own the house.

It isn´t too hard for US people to get legal permission from the US government to visit Cuba. US visitors, many years,
are the second largest group of visitors.

I think the Cubans overall are happy for the material benefits tourism brings to their country.

Given the recent and on-going dismal news, both here in Buenos Aires and other countries on this planet, I am rather alarmed and dismayed that some of the topics in this thread refer to prostitution as being a motivating factor for tourism to Cuba. One only needs to see what the Sex Trade led to in terms of exploitation of impoverished women & children in Thailand, the Philippines, Russia, and many, many other countries on this planet. Yes, even the United States. One's level of loneliness does not justify an immoral exploitation of impoverished people, whether they be male or female. Looking at human beings as a commodity to be purchased & exploited is wrong, very wrong. Time for those of you who don't know this, to be reminded. Time for the rest of us to examine the cause of poverty and demand our governments do something about it. Perhaps if the Cuban people were not burdened by 50 years of severe and unjust sanctions the problems that Cuba faces today would not exist.

After Chile, Argentina and Uruguay (in that order), the most developed countries of the continent, comes Cuba. In the HDI that elaborates the UN, Cuba is the 4th Latin American country. That means that the revolution might have done something right, from the social point of view.
Maybe you dont have civil or political liberties, which is wrong and I totally disagree, but you have health and education. The best health of the continent. not only Chavez or Maradona go there, they go from all the continent, if you have a heavy disease the options always are Cuba or the US.

I know a lot of people who went there, and you dont see people begging in the streets, you dont see kids asking for money in the red lights, you dont see poverty as every other Latin American country has. I ve heard from somebody who went there that the poorer people could perfectly explain the meaning of Fito Paez lyrics, talking about metaphors, or poetry in general, etc,.. in every Latin American country that you can find only in a well educated middle class.

You dont see very rich people as well, that means that in that particulary society, one of the most important social issues Latin American countries have to fight to, the inequality, does not exist.

And Cuba survived the block the US impossed for half a century, isolating their economy, their resources, cancelling the opportunity to export, impossing punishment to every country that commerce with Cuba. That made all Latin Americas countries to turn the back into them.

Fortunately this is totally changing with China, they are opening their economy, and this situation, as well as the integration to Latin America have crossed that barrier.

What is the HDI report from UN , please quote the source link to be able review!!!

If you haven't been there can have a realistic opinion?

ONLY ONE COMMENT, if they opened the borders and people had the means to move to Miami No One would be left in Cuba except of the corrupt Party people in Power that live lavishly, and the Children of the Power , the Castros, Cienfuegos, Guevara, et.al.

Theres one million outside Cuba for six millions inside, and the very great majority in the island support Castro and the Revolution.

I can perfectly know about a place without being in it, because of comments or opinions or writings or news of other people. There are people that say that is a social paradise, like the one I mentioned, other will say the opposite, some gringos tourists wont have a clue, some argentinians doctors come back admiring them, others bitching and talking about how bad the people live. Of course you choose what to believe.

It has some issues, but I repeat, we are talking of average people there, considerating the 100% of the population. And if we look Cubas population as a whole, they are far better than the average Latin American, way better than Mexico that has 60 million under povertry, + the one that they export to the US, better than Colombia, Peru, Brazil, etc...

If Cuba was a capitalist society would be much closer to Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua than to Germany or France, be sure.

The Human Development Index is an index that the UN elaborates about the Human Development (health, education, GDP, life expectancy, Gini index, povertry, etc). Almost every country has it, (you have to be member of the UN) if you go put some country on wikipedia on your right youll see it. They measure this no matter if theres a democracy or not, a socialist or a capitalist regime, etc, no matter the tendency the government has. So, the social indicators are pretty much about quality of life, and Cubas numbers are pretty good.

So what I have chosen to believe pretty much fits with United Nations Cubas numbers.
