Hello everyone. I am in desperate need of information. I was married in Long Beach California in 1992. Moved to Argentina in 2005. Separated and filed for divorce here in Argentina in 2016. Since there are no minor children, and neither of us wanted alimony, and we split our two properties so there was no need for any fighting, our divorce went through very quickly. IN order for our divorce to be completely final the Registrars office is asking that the divorce be legalized and registered in the U.S.

If that's not done, we cannot register the divorce here in Argentina, and neither of us can remarry. My question is, how do I "legalize" and register the divorce in the states? I have the divorce decree signed and stamped by the judge. Do I need to divorce in California as well, or does the U.S. recognize a foreign divorce?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
