How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

Can it be that Lay’s potato chips made with Argentine potatoes, fried in Argentine oil, made in a plant in Argentina are double what you would pay in the UK for instance?

Or 50% higher than what you pay in Uruguay?

I know your answer is probably stop buying lays potato chips and the market will correct itself

Just curious: where is the spare located in your Toyota? Outside hanging from the back door or below? My 4Runner has the latter, and I have just realized it would be very easy to steal.
The spare is stored under the floor, in the back.

The thieves just broke a rear window twice to get to it. Once, while parked in front of my house with the guard's booth a few meters away, and a second time while I parked for ten minutes in an Olivos residential street. Also with a guard in the corner booth. I suspect they are the ones who alert the thieves.

Similar situation happened twice to one of my cousins: Toyota, while parked for ten minutes. In this case commercial street in Moron and Ramos Mejía (Greater Buenos Aires).

This is why I drove a 16 year old minivan when I lived in California. If a thief would stoop that low, he needed the car worse than I did. :)

There will be a devaluation of the official rate to at least 1300-1400 per USD in the first half of 2025 for the simple reason that the farm sector will not export if the current FX regime continues. The BCRA is not accumulating foreign reserves and significant amount of foreign currency denominated debt is coming due in 2025 and beyond. Trump may help Milei out with some cash but the devaluation will have to happen just the same.

All this being said, maybe I'll be proved wrong and we'll become something like Chile, a high income, post-manufacturing, services based domestic economy which exports natural resources, and imports finished goods, but I doubt it. As you've said, this sort of economic policy destroys local manufacturing, so I guess I'm pessimistic. I just want Argentina to succeed.
I think that would be a huge failure. Chile has lost the capacity to manufacture vaccines, and is very far away from producing or designing planes or nuclear reactors, for example. For a country of 45 million people, Argentina punches way above its weight. Chile, sadly, is not the way to go.

For a fucking tyre? JHC 🙄 maybe I’m lucky I have a space saver tyre that even I hate.

I’ll edit this to add, I’ve had two blowouts in the last 6 months. First time was at the intersection of Ruta 6 and 8, I had got started with the tyre change and then the motorway maintenance people in a big white van stopped behind me and basically did everything. Absolutely wonderful people. I limped on with the damn space saver tyre to Daytona in Pilar to drop about 600k Pesos on two new tyres.

Second time was on Ruta 9, driving home, since there had been reports of robberies I didn’t stop, just basically drove be 10km on a bare rim home. See above, I had a spare tyre 🤣 so I took it to the village and changed it for 5000 Pesos.

True: stop buying that stuff. Who really needs potato chips to survive?

Mine would be even easier to steal: it is hanging in the back beneath the floor and to get it you simply have to insert a handle in a hole located under the car plat and crank counterclockwise, and the wheel would descend all the way to the ground. No need to smash anything. Clearly if I am going to import it (even temporarily) I need to do something about it...

My neighbor has that set up. Had a massive chain lock around it too. They cut the lock and stole in broad daylight in centro Neuquen. It's a matter of luck sometimes...
