How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

Don't forget though that in NY this is the inclusive price, no service charges .Here you have expensas of 150- 250k on top of the rental.

Per google...
"as of February 2026, the average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in New York City is approximately $4,100 to $5,200+ per month"

Per Zonaprop the average rent in CABA seems to be around $750k for a 1 bedroom...or $500.
Well, it really depends on the neighborhood. 1 bedroom apartments can be had for 2k but far from manhattan. And Philadelphia is still cheaper, which is why I am exiled here. And its not bad, though my pipes froze from 6 degree F temperatures and had to be fixed today.

And the subject of this interesting ongoing discussion is why I havent followed up to spend half my year in B.A. and half in Philly. It's informative. I really liked Buenos Aires last January and the January before. But am counting my pennies. Best wishes

The pensioneer de Barrio only sees prices go up,Meat went up 50 % during 2025

I rarely buy beef or pork these days, not so much because of the price, which has increased significantly in the past year; it's because I don't like to consume meat that isn't frozen when I buy it in Punta Alta, about 10km from my house.

I started buying chicken wings (always frozen) at the nearby (1.5 km) polloria in June of 2025.

The price in June was $3.500 per kilo. I have reciepts showing that I paid $10.500 for 3 kilos. Occasionally, the price has been a bit lower.

Today I paid $14.000 for 4 kilos, but I can't find any increase in the "regular" price per kilo since last June.

Guess is an individual choice, local pensioners on fixed peso income can (only) buy chicken wings (Alitas).
Very popular for soups ?, Soup again,,!

Why do you prefer frozen meat?

I wouldn't use chicken wings in soup, too much skin and fat, best done crispy in the air fryer for example, in my opinion.

At Polleria Avicola out here 10kg wings will set you back 32500 Pesos.

Is this what expat life has come to? Surviving on chicken wings?

Chicken wings? Not for me - very fatty, which means high pesticide concentration.
Pests have a fatty skin, so pesticides are designed to dissolve in fat. The higher on the food chain, the more concentrated pesticides become. Same problem with liver - a very fatty organ.

Hahaha, not really, at least not for us. We grill / fry them, do them on the BBQ if we're having one, as a starter. Otherwise, a night of watching Netflix can be a good opportunity to do some. Some hot sauce is essential.

Interesting info from Sr. @on the brink, my liver is almost certainly fatty, I didn't know about the other points you make.
