HI there!

Wow. I feel part of the community already. my name is Jack Ryan and I hail from Brooklyn NY. I am currently in Montana but lived in Costa Rica for 11 years (I owned a marketing company there - and then a Mediterranean themed restaurant for 2 years. I am looking to relocate again and have always wanted to live in Argentina. In my VERY brief research to date Mar de Plata keeps coming up.

Can anyone offer me any advice or leads on a good realtor/business broker? I know when engaging like this trustworthy relationships are everything.

Thanks in advance for any good thoughts!

Best,
Jack

Mar de Plata is an interesting city, but you need to be aware that its a bigger city than Detroit or Baltimore or Portand Or. , Milwaukee or Atlanta or Miami, and thats in the off season.
You really need to travel the coast towns and see which ones appeal.
Realtors here are pretty local, you have to pick the area first, then find a broker.

The gastronomic/bar sector in Mardel Plata is in terrible shape many high tickets restos are closing . Also the peak season is Mid Dec. to mid March (Stretching it). January being the winner month. The rest of the year is slow, just enpugh to cover costs. See article

Hi Jack! Welcome to the group!

It's a great advantage that you have already lived in a Latín American country for more than a decade, have two years of restaurant experience, and have always wanted to live in Argentina.

That being said, Rich One made a very important point about the current restaurant closings in Mar Del Plata and, in my personal opinión, this could be the worst time in twenty years to open a restaurant in Argentina, especially in a "resort" town,

All I can do here is offer my opinión, which is basef on almost 25 years of living in two Latin American countries and twenty years of operating retail stores in the USA prior to that. I had retail stores ln Bloomington Illinois from 1970 to 1975 and in Chicago from 1995 to 2000.

I lived in Utah for almost 20 years (most in Park City, beginning in 1975) and I lived in Mexico for five and a half years (all in Sayulita, Nayarít, beginning in 2000) before visiting Argentina for the first time in 2006.

My questions for you are: have you already done any research about getting an investor visa to be able to buy an existing or start a new resturant somewhere along the coast of Pcia ñ. Bs. As. so that you will be able to legally stay in Argentina for more than six months a year? AND/OR: do you have a stable and uninterruptable source of passive income to qualify for a "rentista" visa (currently well under $1,500 USD per month)?

if you are able to get temporary residency based on passive foriegn income, you will be able to take all the time you need to find a desireable location for your restaurant abd your ability to renew ypur residency will not hinge on the success or failure of business.
