I Want An Audi Please

I think in general you should not give your children a fancy and expensive car as their first car. A safe, inexpensive used car should be the first car. Reason one: Kids should learn that they have to earn money to get a nicer car. Reason two: it is not uncommon that you have little fender benders when you start driving - why ruin a fancy car?

I am sure the Head of Tax Agencies in most of our home countries could afford to buy their daughters an Audi A1...but this kind of action is exactly what this government claims to despise. Under this "inclusive" model there are dollar controls, import restrictions, we are told we should be supporting national industry, we shouldn't be travelling overseas and anyone that does is basically assumed a tax fraud. Speaking out against the government (or any MP) can get you a visit from this guys Institution, as can any high value/"odd" purchases. There are still people dying of hunger.

Then this chump as the capo of Tax in this country and who should be first in the line of practising what is preached basically says f*ck you, these rules dont apply to me. Surely at a minimum, he could have bought her something that wasnt imported and was produced in this country...

Totally agree with you, but this country (and its not alone) is so superficial that what car your kids drive is a symbol of how great a person you are, hence if you buy them a VW gol you are just a middle class nobody, meanwhile if you can get your hands on a BMW, Merc or Audi you could be..well...in the President's inner circle...

Trennod, that reminds me of Xmas when you receive a gift in a fancy designer bag as big as a house, only to find a present the size of a matchbox at the bottom.

What a stupid and jugmental evaluation of someones desire for a car. If it's what you like and it suits your needs and you can afford it. Then just do it. What is the harm? Enjoy the ride. Some F..ing politician buying Audis for his 16 yr old daughter with taxpayer money is disgusting.

I think you need to reread my post sir. As far as being reasonable and apparently the opposite of "stupid", I think you should really be aware that you're not the best person to be saying those things. I did not mention the taxpayer money issue because I thought it was so obvious that it didn't need to be said. Kind of like saying you're an angry person, we all know it but never say anything because there's no need really.

I think why this pisses so many people off, my self included, is the fact that this is the man is the head of an agency that makes certain aspects of 21st Century life Hell for people, not just Argies, but foreigners/expats/tourists too. The arguments put forward are always that it's done "in the interest of the nation" or to "protect and promote Argentine business/industry" or "keep/grow jobs here at home". While I do believe it does some (not much) of these things, in reality it's done to prevent capital flight and it also really helps to promote inflation that's getting less controllable every year.

Long story short, him buying his daughter a car for her 18th Birthday isn't the issue, it's the fact families can't afford a single 20 year old domestic model to get groceries with, let alone a 2013 Audi import.

It's like saying "Let them buy BMWs". I'm sure he doesn't feel bad/wrong because in Argentina the idea of nepotism/getting rich off the public tit doesn't translate and personal responsibility/leadership/setting an example is as existent as the HSR between BsAs and Rosario.

Look, its not like he leased the car in the name of the AFIP and then gave it to his daughter to drive. He didn't use "public funds" to buy the car, he bought it with his salary which is the highest of any civil servant, significantly higher than that of the president. Now, is it right that he earns so much? No. Is he washing Nestor's dirty money in exchange for that salary? Most likely.

Those are the real problems, not what he chose to spend it on. If he had paid 50% more for a ford would there be 50% more outrage? If he had paid double for a nice safe volvo would there be double the outrage? Why do we care that he bought her a cheapo audi. Are we next going get worked about whether he drinks Starbucks instead of Havana or Red Bull instead of Speed?

"If it's just for show then you must be a very sad person with little meaning in your life and I guess you better get the car anyway because your life is so empty."
And you do not think this is jugmental. Hmmm. OK have it your way. further...Oh yeah the tax payer thing. That topic has been touched at least 10 times in this thread. Perhaps it's a real touch point for many here.

If it's for show then get a real show car like at least an A4- A5 that I would totally understand. Otherwise I just don't get it.
