Ignore list feature

Could someone explain why the ignore feature is so great, and how does it help you in the threads? if you use the ignore on someone does that mean you can not see their posts? I assume you wont receive PM's from someone in that list but is that all this feature does?

Some posters are highly predictable, and like to write looooooong posts, saying the same thing over and over again ad nauseam.

With the "ignore" feature, you don't have to scroll down pages of slogans to get to the next post. There's a single line saying: "This post is by X, who is in your ignore list", or words to that effect, and you can then move on to more interesting posts.
