Inca Mummies Found In Argentina

The MAAM (Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña) is worth visiting in Salta. It is a small, very well documented museum constructed to house the mummies and give a glimpse on Inca culture. For preservation reasons, only one mummy is in display at any one time.

Remember that the Inkas were latecomers in the Central Andes and especially in what is now Argentina. There is a great deal in the region that predates the Inkas (generally accepted academic spelling now, for what that's worth).

I've seen one of them (they only show 1 at a time!) It was creepy and amazing, definitely not to be missed if you are in Salta!!

Sadly my first thought reading the article was: Aha! Here we have the ancestors of the parents who send their children begging on the train!

This is great information. Thanks so much for posting. There are many mummies in Peru. Interesting that the heads are the same shape as some of the paintings of Egyptians--elongated. I had heard they did that by wrapping the baby's head but it seems to me that in that case the head would be very narrow--which they are not. I don't think they are sacrifices though I don't know.

Not directly related but there's a -very- slim possibility Egyptians could have imported something that exists only in South America -> cocain!
