I am very fascinated by the indios (i.e. indigenous) and I liked a lot the Guaraní artwork I saw in Iguazú.

Yesterday I visited a shop in San Isidro full of handcrafted goods (clothing and stuff, only) who are inspired by the natives of Argentina. The clothes were mostly from a brand called Tierra incognita and one of the shirt read "Cultura Sunchituyoc". The cotton was very good and soft, and I liked the features.

After my souvenirs from Iguazú were literally trashed (...), I wanted to find other guaraní stuff to buy, but apparently there is only one store in Buenos Aires selling guaraní's, and it is located in Palermo. Then I found another guaraní store web site, but it is more on house decoration (so no souvenir to ship to Europe).

Where can I find more of this stuff? Markets? Fairs?

What tribes do you know or do you like?

Any resource to share is welcome (English preferred)

Why were you souvenirs from Iguazu trashed?

I'm guessing you criticized your future mother-in-law's tuco sauce one too many times and they all got thrown out the window.

I bought some potteries, folded in newspaper, and placed in two white plastic bag. I put them on the floor in our room (were they couldn't fall).
They were mistook for trash. And thrown.

Some of the crafts and handiwork made by the Qom community is really interesting and unusual. They sell at the San Telmo fair sometimes but it's hit or miss.

There is a Store that I have always loved in Recoleta on Ayacucho between Guido and Quintana that has an amazing window display of folkloric or indigenous products from all over Argentina. I don't know how much is specifically Guarani, but the textiles are impressive and all handmade. Mostly sells artifacts, one of a kind clothes, jewelry and tapestries. Great to just look around too--everything is nicely presented.

I do not know each tribe in detail; but seems to me that the Guarani tribe had a organized, peaceful, friendly, smart, pre-hispanic culture; some of their culture like "el mate", clothes, their language, already exists fortunately.

The Guaraní are dealing poorly with modernity. Why don't they talk more about this? Do the whites really look "naturals" here?!

Maybe. Maybe it was caused by what Joe said. Either way it's a shame. I hope you can replace them.
