Hi All,

Quick question: Has anyone purchased an Induction electric cooktop with glass here in BA? And where can it be purchased apart from mercadolibre.

I've got one, bought in on mercadolibre. It's ok so long as you are boiling or simmering a large pan of liquid, but you can't do much else with. It has two settings - on and off, and tries to graduate temperature by turning off for varying amounts of time before turning on again. This just about works if you're heating a large body of liquid, but otherwise it just burns anything that's in contact with the pan when it turns on.

True enough. Gas is preferable, but as you mentioned; it does boil water. The glass top, at least is easy to clean.
I found this on ML, a combo gas/electric in a single unit cooktop (also featured in Aristons product list):

IH cooking is so economic, just read article comparing the gas range and induction cooking for a simple pancake making.
The bad thing about IH cooking is that you have to use a certain metal bottom for your pan and cookware. For instance, if you wanting
to cooking using a clay or ceramic on the IH range top it is going no where. Nor, if you have a copper bottom pans..It does not build
enough heat. So ideally, it is best having the regular propane/NG heating device along an IH cooking source.

A second "quick question"..given the above comments, why would anyone want to buy a cooktop that can't be temp controlled?

You can get induction cookers that deliver a stable temperature output. We had one back in the UK, other than the hassle of buying new pans they are pretty amazing. The induction cooktop we bought here leaves much to be desired. A few seconds of Nuclear fusion heat every 2 minutes isn't much help much if you want to scramble an egg.

The only reason we bought one is because our kitchen has next to no ventilation, and our gas cooker was conspiring to kill us all.

Thank you all. i have used induction cook plates with glass top for several years with no problems. it has all the features like temperature control, watt control, pre heat settings, etc etc. I wanted to buy something similar here as an alternative to gas as we have some repair work going on in the building so gas has been disconnected. I did buy the local electric heater that most of you talking but that doesnt help in cooking more than rice, boiling water or milk or max an egg. Thanks you for inputs. i found one on mercado libre hope it works as desired. and yes i already have all the utensils for the induction glass cooktop :)

I can count the number of times I've placed clay or ceramic on a gas cooktop on one hand. I'd suspect that most people are in a similar boat. The problem is really just aluminum.
