Is the Milei "Transformation" Failing Already?

When we had our company in Argentina there were regular strikes and shutting down of our business so we were losing money. It was the only country in South America that this was happening on such a regalar basis and we had businesses in every country. In addition the costs of laying people off when we lost contracts was excessively high (yes business cannot afford to pay for people with no projects or when not getting paid during a strike and this is a disincentive to employing people too) and at the end of the day the company decided to exit the market. Not a good incentive for businesses to invest and hopefully Milei is going to change all this anti-business & anti job creation nonsense. Argentina needs this change.

Drudge is definitely not a Trump fanboy. He's more of neocon conservative.

Any time I check that page for entertainment, there is a critical Trump headline.

I lived in the US during the Trump presidency and this is pure deja vu. I’ve seen this movie before…

Argentine presidents love to talk shit on Twitter. Nothing unique to Milei.

It's hard to top Alberto for being a racist and misogynist though. Telling Brazilians they are jungle people, Mexicans indios, and Argentines being superior white Europeans. Telling women to go cook, instead of engaging in political dialogue.

Now everyone acts offended at Milei's shit posts.

lmao

OK, this one looks like serious business, although I'm not sure it has anything to do with Milei. Oil and gas are businesses everywhere, even in active war zones...

Regarding your company that didn't like Argentinian business environment, not every company is for every market. If you want sweat shop, you won't place it in France, but probably in Bangladesh. If you are depending on projects, you might consider a country with very flexible workforce. And about strikes, check France or Germany, Argentina might look like capitalistic heaven comparing to those.

I understand we have different backgrounds, and some things appear outrageous to some, but you need to see the whole picture. While something works in usa, it might not in other country, and implementing labour laws from the states might bring unwanted consequences, outweighing the good it would bring into economy.

So I thought everything was going to be different and sooo much better, that's why Milei got elected.

It wasn’t just my company it was going on all over the country for many companies in the energy industry at the time and resulted in huge drop in investment in the country. It was bad for the country and the workforce. Dysfunctional radical socialism gone mad.

So I thought everything was going to be different and sooo much better, that's why Milei got elected.

It's been 3 months. You expect an economy to change around instantly? That's not how it works. Plus many of his policy ideas are held up in congress.

Milei is an unstable and eccentric personality. He was elected because things got so miserable under JxC and the Ks that they voted for a libertarian. It's a reaction to the desperation brought by the political class.

If Milei is able to get his ideas implemented, and if they are implemented, how will they play out over the next couple of years is yet to be seen. He could very well be a failure over the long term, but pretending like Argentina could be turned around in 3 months is ridiculous.

I just find it amusing that the K supporters who were silent about Alberto's racism and misogyny are now all of a sudden outraged because Milei liked a down syndrome tweet.

It is far too early to claim success or failure, here. Personally, I think things are going better than I expected. However, it's not an equilibrium situation. The question is -- which it was before -- will see see improvement sufficient that people stomach the pain.

It remains dicey.
