JD Vance to visit Argentina in November

Oh dear. Is there anything we could do to avoid this? Other than sliding quietly into the Atlantic. Apart from anything else, there will be an immensely decent US American visiting in November.

We don't need hillbilly Vance, nor ambassador Lamelasbolas nor, even, his sh*tstirring colleague in Chile. Please, all of them, go away already and leave us alone.

Timed with the U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires Freedom 250 Rodeo Celebration they emailed this week?

Location: Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Event: The U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires invites U.S. citizens and their families living in Argentina to attend a rodeo celebrating American heritage and 250 years of U.S. independence.

Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2026
RSVP: Space is limited.

I was actually kind of curious about that rodeo, having only been to one before, but I can't decide if I'm actually curious enough to go and deal with that level of officially-sanctioned patriotism.

But were it Kamala you'd watch?

Why does it have to be one thing or another? I'm in Argentina now but back in Dear Old Blighty the recent parliamentary by election seem to indicate the public holding all shades of politicians in contempt.

You’re fishing, but no, I didn’t form a very positive impression of Kamala as VP or candidate.

But generally, I’m not invested in US politics, and would prefer to avoid the topic, except when it affects us here in Argentina. Unfortunately. I think the Mexican lament (so far from God, so close to the US) has come to apply here too.

One of the things I admire about your country is your sense of humour. The by-election you mention is where Count Binface came second?

I still watch clips from Farty Towels. If you can manage some Irish humour I can recommend Father Ted from Craggy Island.
