I have a friends who have two pecan trees. I told them I would send them a recipe for pecan pie, but I realize all the good recipes use Karo/corn syrup. Normally I avoid that at all costs, but it makes a great pecan pie. Any clue if that is available in AR? Or can anyone suggest an alternative?

Is there really that much of a difference if you just use simple syrup?

According to my dear ole mammy, yes.

I have my own dear old mammy. Trust me, she might be insane.

I have found brown Karo syrup here in the supermarkets from time to time, but never clear. Brown may work for pecan pies (I've never made one, so I don't know) but I have the most fantastic peanut brittle recipe (light and crunchy with the most incredible taste - I've never seen anything like it for sale anywhere) passed down through the family that requires clear Karo syrup and I've never found it here. There is no photo for the item you posted, I looked at a couple of others that were in a can, obviously one can't tell from that...
