Right. Lots of people do swim in the river, at least further up in the delta around Tigre, off the small river beaches, or just standing chest-deep cooling off or drinking mate in the evenings. I wouldn't be too confident further down, though CABA does get its drinking water out of the river.I wouldn't swim in the Rio de la Plata, which is in fact, not a river, but a estuary. The water looks brown because of the sediment below. Mar de las Pampas is beautiful. Enjoy the summer!!
Yes it's brown, lots of sediment, which is still forming new islands in the delta.
I love Mar de las Pampas, I've never seen anything like it.
I guess for swimming you want the right mix of warm river water and cold clean Atlantic. On the other side, look for Uncle Tom's Cabin (Tio Tom), that seemed to me to be ideal. The Uruguayans claim their side of the river is cleaner, who knows?
