Lack Of Wheat?

http://www.pagina12....2013-07-06.html

According to this article, there are missing 3 billion tons of wheat that were not exported.

The theories are:
1) productors offer a little bit to make the price rise ( local prices for wheat are double than international prices) and they have 3 billion tons (3 companies own 75% of the market)
2) they sold 3 billion tons (under the table) and there is no more wheat;
3) the farmer 's union says the lack of wheat is responsabilty of the government for bad policies.

The governmet decree to use a law that allow them to confiscate the missing wheat and to sell it at international prices in the local market.

As i said many times, the problem in this country are monopolies and cartels.

And how will they locate and confiscate the "missing" wheat?

i wonder if this has anything to do with it....

and if "local prices for wheat are double than international prices"

why don't they just buy some wheat at the international price and make a killing on the local market?

Maybe because of the restrictions on imports and the difficulty of paying for those imports unless you get govt. authorization. I guess they would want their share of the deal and it doesn't look like they're on good terms.

AFIP refuses to give the government authorization to purchase dollars to buy wheat on the international market!

It makes sense, there is a lot of wheat here.

The price falled 25% and the producers and exported promised the normal supplying.

The president of a federation of productors or something alike said:

I open this thread because for the last 2/3 months there were many thread were we were debating why is food so expensive here, the reason I think is a manipulation of the market. What happens with wheat is a good example.

The problem here are monopolies and cartels. In the case of wheat is a cartel. 18 companies united on a federation who works like a monopoly. There were 2 mllion tons but they were underselling to produce an artificial lack of wheat that produces a rise of prices: Wheat was more expensive here than abroad!

That´s easy. There are records and they follow them. Finally there is somebody who bought but didn t pay taxes for selling.
That´s how they discovered that there were about 2 million tons missing.
The wheat was on hands of the exporters who were especulating to make the price raise. Obviously, they can confiscate it because the price falled 25% in a few days and they promest a normal supplying.

That doesn't mean that he's wrong.

If you:

1) Can't get dollars for the grains that you sell overseas.
...&...
2) Want to fuck CFK.

Why not just say that you don't have wheat to sell?

Then you put your wheat in the grain silos that so many farms have on their premises or in these new massive plastic bags that are literally about 30 meters long (or longer), 2-3 meters wide, and about a meter & a half high?

There the product sits while the people grow angry with CFK and she loses ground in the midterm elections. Then after that, you can sell your while on the market, whether here or abroad, but CFK is in a weaker position that before.

If I owned a large campo and didn't like CFK, it might be something that I would do. Just because he sides with "K", doesn't mean that he's always wrong.

Would you believe price controls?
