Life in Provinces Recommendations

Do you mean Provinces as in self-governing states that make up the country of Argentina? Or are you looking for barrios and communities closer to the capital? Provincia de Buenos Aires surrounds the capital and is bigger than many other countries. There are many jolly nice and reasonably safe provinces throughout Argentina.

It would be discourteous to the owner of this site to recommend other similar sites here especially since the membership here whilst concentrated in the capital is countrywide. If you really want to find them you'll need to sharpen your search skills and/or venture into places like Instagram and Facebook.

There are also nationality based sites for expats more generally. I'm British and I know at least one site themed for British people wherever they may be. You'll probably find one for your nationality too.
Thank you, I had thought initially this site were limited to BA only, but since it covers the whole country it is possible i will find everything a person needs here,

Thank you for the useful link, cheers!
You're very welcome. If anyone has a better breakdown by city / town, I'd be interested.

We're living in the province of Buenos Aires, which, according to the link, seems to be most unsafe part of Argentina (though the population of 18 million must skew the statistics). It's worthwhile talking to locals about safety, we were told "our" village is quite safe, the nearest big towns (Campana and Escobar) are relatively safe, and Zarate, further out, can be downright dangerous.

I think you can minimize your risk by living in one of the various types of gated communities, which range from open, semi-open, to closed, with corresponding levels of security. At the high end, you could live in a place like Cardales Country where the guards carry shotguns and patrol the fence every 30 mins or so. It sounds oppressive, but it's an absolutely bucolic lifestyle, with a golf club, tennis courts, cycle paths, gym, restaurant and small shop all on the grounds, plus you'll have your own pool and grill. Houses are from say $250k up to buy, long term rentals maybe $1500 per month. Living in Tigre sounds good too, it's a nice town, and living out in the delta (lots of people do) would be my idea of heaven. And you're still at most an hour or so from the capital.

My criteria is a radius of 150 km from capital..I have lived many years in cities like Mercedes, Suipacha, Chivilcoy. All within 150 km. Minibuses commute many times a day. Can come into Capital for the day. Nice houses for rent long term or temporary.

Thank you for this informative post, the prices mentioned in those gated communities sound very reasonable too, the recommendations from members are very helpful in a major way, Wife & I are not young & going on an 'Trial & Error' are not on the agenda as we simply don't have that much time left!

No worry, the initial search for Nunez landed me down at Bahia Blanca, but now a different search has revealed Nunez in CABA...sorry about that.
Interesting result. I lived in Nuñez for one year (after three years in Recoleta) prior to moving to the south of Provincia de Buenos Aires near Bahía Blanca in 2010.

I would only recommend living in my area to those who seek a high level of peace and quiet in a natural setting, but few "cultural activities" or an extensive selection of restaurants compared to Capital Federal.

That being said, oher members can provide answers to questions like these:

How would you describe the lifestyle you are seeking in Argentina?

Do you want to live in a house or an apartment?

Do you want to have a vehicle and plan on extensive travel in Argentina?

Is permanent residency and/or citizenship part of your plan?

In addition to any income taxes you will be subject to pay in Argentina and other countries, are you aware that almost everything you pay for "en blanco" includes the 21% value added tax...and as prices increase, the percentage of your income that you pay in taxes will (in general) also increase at the same rate?

Do you know that imported goods purchased here are likeky to be far more expensive than in your home country (thanks to customs duties)?

Are you planning to import your household goods after being granted temporary residency and are you aware of the conditions that apply?

I hope others will add anything they care to (both positive and negative) to this list.

PS: Have ever visited Argentina?

Yes we are seeking a high level of peace & quiet in a natural setting, & would be seeking a house, the lifestyle we are looking for are a reasonably healthy lifestyle, with cycling, tennis, swimming, mind & body pursuits like Tai Chi & Yoga, gardening etc, in our mature age we have found both of us to be happy in our own company, & are not necessarily sociable creatures, avoiding the Pub & Club Scene(both non drinkers) the cultural events would be interesting though that would not be a central part of our life, the amazing history of South America we are interested in learning, we would be looking at renting a house with the view to ultimately purchasing so we can have a garden etc, we would be interested in aiming at the citizenship even if we eventually decide we would prefer another country to reside in,

We would not really be interested in importing goods into AR as our needs are generally frugal, that 21% VAT is a real kick in the guts though & hoping our income could cover that expense.

Yes we would like to have a vehicle & a motorcycle so that will be on the cards.

We have never visited Argentina though my research has shown that we would like the situation & environs as I always had a fascination with that area of the world, Argentina is part of a broader plan because we would be visiting Chile, Paraguay & Uruguay as well, with the outlook of possibly adding further residencies to the list.

We would certainly travel throughout the whole of AR as we feel it is not doing a visitation to a country justice without viewing most areas.

We have a fair idea of the conditions involved in the temporary visa.

Cheers!

We have explored everywhere along the eastern shore and are very pleased with Peurto Madryn in Chubut. So much so we bought a home here and found it safe and rich with coastal area for coastal exploration. This board has been very valuable to me even located this far south. Enjoy your search
