The car that started this discussion cost £21,500 in the UK when new, depending the spec. A 2012 model is selling for £15,800 ($22,000) 9 years later in Argentina. Still, it's worth remembering the owner probably paid closer to $35000 for it new, well over the odds. It is interesting how much cars hold their value here.
I know, because I have done it, you can buy a used car for a few hundred pounds in the UK. It's a lottery at that point but you can get some vehicles in the range that will last you a year. When I was a teen, me and my friends would all chip in £5 or £10 and buy a cheap car for £50-£100. It would be a Lada or something terrible, not road legal or roadworthy, and on it's last legs. We would rally it up the mountain until it give up or we crashed it beyond repair, and then just leave it. The folly of youth I suppose.
