Macri On Cnn With Video

Drug prohibition is a failure in the Americas, Europe and Asia. And I find it extremely worrisome that Macri want to make drug prohibition his #2 top priority.

Macri only mentioned 'defeat drug trafficking', not drug prohibition - you realize those are two different things?

traffic (verb) - to deal or trade in something illegal or forbidden.

Really, how are they different? You try to stop trafficking exactly because of a prohibition that it is in place. If there is no prohibition, there is no trafficking. To defeat trafficking is to enforce prohibition. It is to prevent the commerce of something you outlawed.
BTW, how are Europe's efforts to "defeat drug trafficking" going? Is heroin or ecstasy any hard to find in Germany these days?

EJLarson and thorsten:
Excellent points.Defeat 'drug trafficking' is going after big time crime and I see no problem whatever that it be high up on Macri's priority list.
Drug prohibition could be a failure but drug regulation not so.

How is that initiative going in the rest of the world as of late? Have they at least stopped drug trafficking into high security prisons yet?

I am sure wealthy and highly organized/efficient countries like the US, Canada, Germany and so forth have managed to defeat "big crime traffickers" already, right?
Since they have already figured that one out, I am sure Macri can simply follow their footsteps.

I would need to read up on the info available concerning world wide drug trafficking efforts which I,unfortunately, don't have time to do at the moment.
Nonetheless, I agree that simply prohibiting drugs soft or hard does not achieve its desired result but far from it.
I reiterate any sort of addiction has to do with a person's need or desire to aliviate or escape from their reality for some reason .
I would include here so called "recreational drugs ".
.Counseling efforts on the part of the state and police foces should continue.
Unfortunately again,as is well known :Crime does indeed pay and usually BIG BUCK$$ .

CNN: Global War on Drugs is Falling.

[background=rgb(254, 254, 254)]"The punitive prohibitionist approach to global drug control has proven remarkably costly, ineffective and counterproductive. [/background][background=rgb(254, 254, 254)]It has generated extraordinary levels of violence, crime and corruption while failing to reduce the availability and use of psychoactive drugs."[/background]

Joining this losing global war is Macri's #2 priority. Might as well just light the money that he plans to pour into this folly on fire. Would be more fun to watch.

Do you have a position on this, or is your reaction just to be against everything? Do you really think that anyone on this forum thinks that efforts to combat addiction or dealing have been successful? So what's your answer? Do you propose that governments just ignore it? Treat addiction but ignore the dealers? What's the answer?

Yes. It should be treated as a public health/social issue, not a law enforcement issue. We should treat drug abuse just like we treated gambling addiction and alcoholism.
We don't criminalize the trade of vodka or the operation of casinos. The same should be done in regards of drugs.
I honestly did not expect Macri to legalize drugs. But I was appalled and dismayed that he made the war on drugs one of his top priorities.

I believe it is already treated as a public/health/social issue in New York City where my sister and brother -in- law work in Social Services.
I am going to make it a point to ask them in the next few days.when I phone them.
Since you live in the U.S.,Camberiu,it shouldn't be difficult for you to do the same.
Please let us know what you are able to find out. I'll do likewise.
I am not "appalled and dismayed in the slightest that Macri wants to go after narco crime. As is not one Argentine I have talked to today about it..
