Me and My GF moving to BA for 6 months end of October 2018

If your airline tickets allow change of travel dates, come for 2 months instead of 6.....Oct-Nov or Jan-Feb or March-April.
Forget about trying to find a job which pays under the table and in pesos. Bring the US$4000 (cash) in $100 crisp, new dollar bills and exchange them legally as you go along.

The best period would be either Oct-Nov or Mar-Apr (Jan and Feb are too hot and there is less activity in the city because Argentines take holidays)

In my opinion, BA is the most distinct metropolitan capital in Latin America. Enjoy exploring the city and chalk this up to experience.

2 months on 4000 USD in Buenos Aires is more realistic than 6 months. It could still be on the low end for 2 people, but should be doable. Do not come to Buenos Aires to work, enjoy the time you are there. Learn how the buses and metro work, so you do not need to pay for taxis, this saves money as well.

The best period is either Oct-Nov or Mar-Apr. Jan and Feb are too hot and people take holidays, so there is less activity in the city.

As mentioned, many airline tickets can be rebooked to another date for a fee of about 150 USD per ticket.

If you would like to live cheap for 6 months, Colombia might be a better destination, though it is different.

According to Clarin Newspaper. The Cost of living in BA for a typical middle class ARGENTINIAN family of four is quoted as, $50,000 pesos per month,, includes rental, medical , etc. only basics, which amounts to US$1785 per month. Then Maybe you both could survive on US$1000 per month. Argentians can rent cheaper long term Unfurnished . They can save on health coverage for citizens, and know the ropes to cut costs. With US$7,000 in hand, one can find temp housing for 2 months plus pay for groceries and cost of public transportation. Either a short-term apt rental, furnished, with internet access or a room for 2 in someone's apt where one has access to kitchen facilities. Medical attention for emergency care only (24-hrs) is available to tourists at public health hospitals.

CORRECTED AMOUNT....With US$4,000 in hand, one can find temp housing for 2 months plus pay for groceries and cost of public transportation.

The pay for teaching English is not good here.. Besides, there are many other people doing that. If you want to come to Buenos Aires on a vacation, that's just fine, but don't plan on making a living teaching English here with the current economic conditions, and the fact that the market is already saturated with people doing that good luck.
