I think it was the US elections he was waiting for. He’s the first leader Trump met and at his private residence! And Argentina is a great nation with all the assets and natural resources. A push from a strong hand can put Argentina on the right track with all the resources. We just need a big brother watching for us!
For sure there's a lot to be gained for Argentina!
Today talking heads are saying Trump, Elon, and Vivek will 'take a chainsaw' to the Federal budget, Milei-style (no mention of Congress' role). And here's a photo-op with Trump, Elon and Javier: a graphic element for the news page about the fabulous success of the Argentine Economy, and Trump's plan to follow his example. This gives the GOP the feeling that huge changes might actually happen this go-round, like in Argentina; and it gives Argentines the feeling that a windfall is around the corner, because they're all at Mar a Lago... proof of the Great Man theory. It's great PR for both sides.
Trump voters have a rosy idea of Milei's Argentina, though they may not be able to find it on a map; and credit the success to "chainsaw=good" austerity. It's proof of concept, get rid of public works and the economy booms. The question remains, what will Trump give in return; and
why would he give anything, when he's already getting everything he needs from Milei?
Is Elon willing to bid against China for the lithium, even though there's huge reserves in the USA? Is it worth it for him to deal with unions in Argentina, when Tesla is a non-union shop? Is the idea that Trump would exempt Argentine Teslas from tariffs to make them competitive (as a favor to Elon and Milei), while salaries here are still higher than in Mexico... which is already in NAFTA? The USA is the worlds biggest producer of beef. What will they import? Mate? I just don't see the motivation from the USA side to give anything, and it's really sad for Milei, who seems to be counting on the USA big-time.
