Hi all, been a follower of this forum for a while, was hoping my first actual post would be of a slightly different nature, but that's life...

Does anyone have up to date info on the availability of the morning after pill here in BA? I found a lot of results online of course but the Argentine girl I am with said they changed the policy recently, and that she tried some time in the past to get the pill but was refused unless she had prescription.

Time is obviously of concern so if anyone can advise quite quickly I'd be very appreciative. And, if it's the case that only certain pharmacies sell over the counter, specific addresses would be very useful (preferably Palermo area but one can't be too fussy in these scenarios)

Many thanks in advance.

As far as I was aware, you could buy it over the counter at a pharmacy. Your best bet is to go in and ask for it at a farmacity or somewhere... If they tell you that a prescription is needed, just go into one of the hospitals (Aleman, Swiss are both in Palermo) and ask to see a doctor de Guardia...I'm sure they'll help you out.

Your user name is repugnant and reprehensible.

"Spanish fly" implies date rape.

I hope your Argentine "girl" is pregnant as a result of consentual sex.

Even if the "morning after pill" is available (and works), I hope she realizes what kind of "man" she is involved with.

Yes, I am judging you by your username.

And you better hope that morning after pill works because abortion in Argentina is ILLEGAL...

and your black market option of abortion is just scary...

Wow. What a completely horrible human being you are. My username is based on a nickname I've had in the UK since I was about 12. A flying fox is a type of bat. "Spanish fly" is obviously very different and something I've never heard of. But thanks for taking the time to submit the useful response.

That's the first I've heard about Spanish fly and date rape. Why is the OP being given such a roasting? I don't know about any new rules, but any pharmacy will let you know and, in my experience, the small non-chain ones are more likely to bend rules.

Any man who has had the nickname that includes the espression "spanish fly" since he was 12 years old and (is now old enough to have sex as well be a parent) and says he doesn't know what that expression means is either incredibly stupid or disingeneous at the least.

I never asked a woman to abort or terminate a pregancy.

I never had to.

And I have been sexually active for over 40 years.

Without anyone ever calling me a completley horrible human being.

Or preventing one from being born.

Would you like a round of applause for your flawless track record steveinbsas? And if I am the "kind of man" you say, why am I spending my time trying to seek help in an online forum as apposed to hopping on a bus to Santiago and never be seen here again? It seems incredible hostility from a "veteran".

I've never heard of that expression either... The OP wasn't talking about an abortion but simply accessing a morning-after pill. Either way, that was a pretty harsh response to his inquiry. I didn't see the bit where you said your girlfriend was Argentine...She should really just go to whatever hospital is covered in her medical insurance. I'm sure they will tell her what pharmacy to go to.

The brand name of the pill you are looking for is segurite unidosis, from Laboratorios Raffo. It is available without a prescription and it is effective up to 72 hs. There are pharmacies open 24 hs.
