Hello
My name is Mary, I'm from San Francisco and have come to BA to be an au-pair and to study Spanish. However, I am not starting my au pair job until the 1st of March and staying at a hostel for close to 3 weeks doesn't sound too enticing, anyone know of any affordable short term places apartments or rooms? Or nice hostels with affordable private rooms?
Thanks!

hello Mary, i live in San Isidro (large house, pool, barrio cerrado in best location) and im looking for an aupair for my 8 yr old. plenty of room in the house. are you totally commited to the one you mentioned? would you tell me how to find an aupair? i obviously need very good references. thanks! Veronica

You could look for a temporary rental (shared flat) on couchsurfing.org Look at the BsAs group about housing.

Hi Mary,
I have a guest room in my apartment that's free for the next few weeks. I can trade it for half the apartment monthly expenses. Please enable the PM feature and send me a message if you are interested. thanks Allan

Hi Mary, welcome! As a fellow San Franciscan, here are my words of wisdom (one perspective, take them for what they're worth): rent a furnished apartment through one of the many agencies in BsAs. You can do a search on this board for recommendations, etc.

I've used bytargentina.com many times, and while they're not great, they're relatively easy to work with and have apartments at all price ranges. Their Argentine site, byt-argentina.com.ar even lets you search by amenities so if wifi or a/c are a priority for you it's possible to limit your search results by these criteria (though you'll need to then return to their other site bytargentina.com to actually book the apartment...)

Monthly rent for a furnished apartment is generally the price of renting for 3 weeks, so if I were you I'd probably make a reservation for 1 month so that you'll have a cushion in case the au pair assignment isn't a good fit, etc. Contracts don't carry the same weight in Argentina, so there is always the chance that the au pair assignment you thought was locked up may end up falling through so it's good to know you won't end up scrambling for a place in that type of situation.

Good luck, and again, welcome!
