Opening a Mercado Libre acct. w/o a DNI

I was able to sign up for Mercado Libre through the iOS app a month ago without DNI. All I needed was to verify a +54 phone number.

I can't register for Mercado Pago without a DNI so I used Pago Fácil to pay for the wares. When I didn't have enough cash I would use Western Union at the same branch different teller. Upon arrival of the parcel the door men gave their DNI.
 
Just made another purchase at Mercado Libre and my Mastercard Debit card even worked. For the DNI to go with the payment, I entered my passport number with letters replaced by zeroes, and payment went through.
