Hello, everybody!

I'm wondering where I could possibly get a portable oxygen mask here in Buenos Aires.

To be honest, I've never had one and am not sure how it's supposed to be or look like. It's just that I'm really not used to so much people smoking all the time around me and need to do something about it before asma, tobacco allergies, nausea, etc etc kicks in.
It's really taking my breathe away in a bad way.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

<------------------ You mean one like this? I still have my flight school helmet, but alas no jet to plug the O2 hose into.

I'm highly sensitive to second-hand smoke but I can't say that I've had a serious problem dodging the cloud in BsAs. Where are you finding all these people that smoke? Not trying to be a smart-a$$ or anything, just trying to understand your situation.

Hey, Dirtboy. I am rather more of a smoke detector than just sensitive, seriously.

Where in BA? I'd say everywhere!

Dodging clouds of smoke isn't that effective if 90% of people are smoking or when you're in a situation where you can't move around, say inside the buildings at Ciudad Universitaria (yes, it's not allowed, but everybody does it and I can't overrule majority), at the bus queue, etc.

I know there are such things as oxygen masks and I really rather look like an astronaut or whatever than exposing myself so much.

You wouldn't know of anything then, right?

I've had issues with people smoking here and a couple of times the arguments got very nasty. Where I used to live the encargado used to smoke all over the building in the hallways and elevator, the smoke would come under my door and the hallways smelled so bad. When I asked him to stop he nearly attacked me and then I told the administrator who ignored me because he was a chain smoker who about a year after that incident died of cancer. I dont live there anymore but sometimes see the encargado around the neighborhood in the street always with a cigarette in his mouth, it's so disgusting. In my office all of my immediate co-workers smoke, they don't smoke inside the office but go out on a terrace and never bother to empty the ashtray which is always full of cigarette butts. They all stink soooo bad but what can I say at least I dont have to breathe their poison. I really dispise smoking.

Ask at a pharmacy or a doctor. There are medical supply companies that I am sure have them. You can probably rent a system where they deliver refilled O2 bottle regularly . There are also portable systems. As for a just a mask , with no O2 , Sodimac or Easy have them for working with hazardous
materials. My mother uses O2 in the States. There has to be companies that specialize in this here.

As for smokers , they do have a right to do what they want within the parameters of the law. As with responsible gun owners , responsible smokers should make it a first priority to not bother anyone else and clean up , and dispose of properly their waste.

That's the best comparson you can come up with? ;)

No , just dumbing it down for the slow folks on the forum. It is early after all. I need another cup of coffee.

Besides , Gun control always gets people riled up !! I always clean up my brass at the range.

Surely you're not referring to a full O2 delivery system?
They can be had probably in a chemist.
I'm a smoker and sympathise with you.
I have friends and family who loathe smoking and frankly don't see why non smokers should accommodate smokers and so I make a concious effort to be as discreet as possible.
It doesn't always work though.
Maybe one of those disposable face masks might help.
When the bird flu was threatening many people were wearing them.

Never go full retard.

Lucky you weren't born twenty years earlier. I still remember flying overseas when smoking was allowed. At the end of your journey your clothes reeked like you were a chain smoker. In my office in Japan the guy across from me delighted in blowing smoke across our two desks.

By comparison Buenos Aires seems mild. Although I expect the car and bus pollution is a real health hazard.
