Well I'm kicking movistar to the curb officially. Its not that the 3G is slow, its actually quite quick most of the time it's working, the problem is just that about 30% of the time it doesn't work at all.

So between Claro and Personal, can anybody rate their experience with coverage, internet etc?

Sorry, no advice but let me know how it goes. I hate Movistar service now but am stuck in a contract.

They ALL suck. We've had Claro and Personal and both have been awful. I guess if I had to choose, I would pick Personal. Claro is nothing but a bunch of thieves and liars and I refuse to use them anymore.

Claro user since early 2009.

iPhone plan with unlimited internet.

Pros:
-great coverage wherever you go
-3G is quite quick in the northern suburbs (and is extremely fast in the city of Cordoba for instance)

Cons:
-3G is often unavailable when in the microcentro or heavily populated areas of Buenos Aires.
-Claro customer service is a nightmare (not just bad, awefully bad... Makes you even wish you had not called them)

I've noticed over the last year the 3g and cell service from Claro has gotten bad for me. Sometimes I don't get service while in the city and have had to reboot my F.U. iPhone to get it to register, but even then it may not work. I think it used to be better before, but this is just anecdotal. What I really hate about Claro now is how they spam you day and night with SMS messages. Often soon after you text or call someone, and they don't give you an option to stop them.

ps: I agree with va2ba. If the choice is between Claro and Personal, I'd probably go back to Personal. They're probably just as bad as the other two, but they did not steal money from us like Claro did when we signed up with them a few years ago.

Personal offers international calls at the price of local calls? I'm in....assuming the fine print checks out.

I'm actually happy with Personal in terms of cell service - unlike friends with Claro who often have massive delay in delivery of texts being sent out and so forth. Can't comment on internet.

I'm very happy with my Clara unlimited data plan (and they didn't require me to have a DNI) but their cell service can be spotty, especially inside buildings. It doesn't work at all in my apartment for example.
