Pesky little infection..

However drinking a lot of fluids during a UTI at least helps because you need to empty your bladder more frequently, which aids in curbing the amount of bacterial growth possible.

Very good advice! I started doubling up on water yesterday. Thankfully it really isn't too bad. No major pain, just the need to go to the bathroom all the time.

Gosh, what a sexy conversation, right?!?

Many dieteticas sell it I buy mine from Dietetica Mirasoles Malabia and Charcas Palermo Soho

I suggest you go to a doctor.
My former girlfriend used to have issues with that, she used to take vitamins, you know, all these trader joe and Whole food supplements. The doc said that and excess of that was the problem.

Too much of anything isn't good. The cranberry/blueberry juices are good because of the way they interact with the bacterias present during a UTI. I did a little digging online and found an interesting look at several studies. All findings to be taken with a grain of salt (or class of water;)) but I excerpted a bit of it here (text from this website if you're interested in reading the whole thing http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2010/08/does_cranberry_juice_help_repr.php):

A 1998 letter to the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine (Howell et al. 1998) states that...
The consumption of cranberry juice has been recommended for the prevention of urinary tract infections, and a 1994 clinical study provides scientific validation of this claim. The effect is due not to the highly acidic nature of cranberries but to specific compounds in cranberries that inhibit the adherence of Escherichia coli to uroepithelial cells.

and

A systematic review of the evidence for cranberries and blueberries in UTI prevention (Jepson and Craig 2007). Here's the abstract:
In this review we assess the effectiveness of cranberry and blueberry products in preventing symptomatic urinary tract infections (UTIs). Selection criteria were randomised or quasi-randomised controlled trials of cranberry or blueberry juice/products for the prevention of symptomatic UTIs. A comprehensive search was undertaken in November 2006 whereupon two reviewers independently assessed and extracted data. Quality was assessed using Cochrane criteria. Relative risks (RR) were calculated where appropriate; otherwise a narrative synthesis was undertaken. No relevant trials of blueberry products were identified. Nine trials of cranberry products met the inclusion criteria. In four good quality randomised controlled trials (RCTs), cranberry products significantly reduced the incidence of symptomatic UTIs in 12 months (overall RR 0.65, 95% CI: 0.46-0.90) compared with placebo/control. Five trials were not included in the meta-analyses due to the lack of appropriate data. However, only one reported a significant result. Side effects were common, and losses to followup/withdrawals in several of the trials were high (> 40%). There is some evidence from four good quality RCTs that cranberry juice may decrease the number of symptomatic UTIs over a 12-month period, particularly in women with recurrent UTIs. It is uncertain whether it is effective in other susceptible groups.

All studies examined effectiveness of cranberries, but blueberries have been shown to share the properties with cranberries. At any rate, too much of anything is never a good thing (such as the vitamin supplements bajo_cero mentions) but if this is your first day of having the UTI chances are you can kick it yourself (I swear by those cranberry supplements) without the aid of antibiotics. The dietetica Perry mentioned is the same that I mentioned earlier which actually sold the cranberry extract pills, but I've seen blueberry juice in almost all dieteticas I've been in that have a refrigerator. If the UTI lasts for more than a couple of days, or keeps getting worse, definitely see a doctor. (sorry for the formatting, not sure how to correct it, so all text quoted is in dark blue).

I've also seen it at a few dieteticas. The one that pops out in my head is on Paraguay and Gurruchaga (or is it Armenia... either way, it's the one with the crazy owner who will chase you around the store waving tofu cake.) I'm also pretty sure I've seen it at La Esquina de las Flores and New Garden Villares.

Jumbo sells Ocean Spray cranberries in the can, both jelled and whole berries. More potent than watered down juices.

Hello everyone. I have found cranberry juice in La Plata at a naturalista shop. It´s about 70 pesos for a bottle but it´s not diluted or anything. If anyone wants the address I´d be glad to give it out. It´s the only place I have found.

Surprisingly easier than finding cranberry juice in this city is finding Ciprofloxacin. Its a pill that they usually prescribed for "travelers stomach" and the like, but its a medication for UTI's as well. Works like a charm.

You are supposed to have a prescription for it (so if you have a doctor fax you one, or are going to one here, you can ask specifically for that), but I didn't have a prescription. I just told the guy at my neighborhood pharmacy that I didn't have a way for my doctor to fax me my prescription, I was told to just go down and ask for it, etc etc, talking out of my ass. It was fine. Can't guarantee that it will work 100% of the time, but its worth a shot.
