not sure if you have seen this. link below:

The Argentine peso is being exchanged for more than eight pesos per dollar to tourists holidaying in regional resorts. The lower exchange rate is seen at $7.40 per dollar, a higher rate still than the black market rate in Argentina.

Tourists who decide to travel to any vacation destination in South America from Argentina without buying the currency of the destination country will lose significantly on foreign exchange. The exchange rate in Argentina is still far lower than that available in cities in Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.

Yesterday, the dollar closed in the illegal market at $7.04 while resorts like Punta del Este in Uruguay by dollars for no less than $7.40, according to Cambio18, an exchange institution.

In Chile, the Argentine peso is exchanged for no less than $7.83 per dollar while in Brazil the exchange rate climbs to almost $8.20, according to Infobae. Centaurus Change and Tourism in Florianopolis, Brazil offered an exchange rate of $8.19 yesterday.

Forty five percent of Argentines going on vacation will be heading to Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, according to tour operators.

Well what can one say, He who travels with pesos will suffer...! The dollar here will stay stable and increase again in the 2nd. part of January ...!!

Honestly, I'm surprised someone is still willing to give away a dollar at $7.40 (although its the lowest price, its still ridiculously cheap) outside of Argentina. Its kinda funny since I know some people here who dumped their dollars about 4-5 years ago when the housing bubble burst...ah how luck changes!

does this mean, if I go to chile and sell usd, i can get peso at 7.80?

if yes, how?

After two years of living in Buenos Aires (living off of, working, saving the peso and converting it) I now have moved
to Colombia. I can tell you here they don't give two shits about the dollar. In fact, the dollar has gone down
against the peso in the last week. The dollar craze is fortunately not here (in Colombia).

Yeah it was so bad we left the country.. and on the way out we ran into many folks leaving for this very reason. Met a Brazilian with a tech company.. Whooott.. fired over 100 people in 4 offices and closed the doors. Met another American with programmers developing systems for casinos all blanco.. offices in BA, Cordoba and Posadas.. Let em all go! Second day here walk into a new Farmacia here the Arg Spanish? Are you from Argentina? Yes we closed the doors in Argentina and moved here 4 months ago! Went to buy a new laptop and again another Arg business closed the doors and moved to Uruguay. Freaky to say the least if this really is the rate at which business is moving out of Argentina give 8 to 16 months and watch the fire works. Only this time there is absolutely nothing to fall back on except maybe communism.

That should be the price to buy Argentinian pesos, the price to sell would be lower. There would be a spread between buy and sell price, so buying and selling is only profitable for exchange houses (or is this the way you thought about making money?)

Spread is nearly 6 times bigger in neighbouring country (to sell USD for ARS in Uruguay brings an exchange rate 30% lower than the one for selling ARS for USD vs. to sell USD for ARS in Argentina brings an exchange rate 5% lower).

Correct me if i'm wrong
