Pick pocketed

In CF long enough for a life time = 5 months.

The simple approach is to get a hard-plastified colour copy of your passport (AR$ 10-15), bring your pp along in a hidden pocket, try the "carnet de ID" and if it's accepted where you usually use your pp, use the "carnet" in the future. For traveling or buying tickets across country borders, it won't do.

If it isn't accepted then you have all data for a new passport handy when :D the old one is stolen.

Left front pocket. Nothing ever goes in the back pocket.

They got close enough to you to get into your left front pants pocket without you noticing? I am so paranoid that my wallet and hand in my wallet are always in my right hand pocket.

There was really only one time where it could have happened. I got stuck behind someone who was going really slow while walking past a flower stand on the street and being a polite person, I didn't push past them, but someone pushed passed me. Half a block later I realized what happened and they were long gone.

And what bothers me, is not so much that they got my passport, but they got my visa as well. So now I've got no way to withdraw money until I get a replacement.

I had a photocopy of my passport laminated in the U.S. and that worked for many years here, except when I use my debit card in Farmacity or Coto. Depending on the employee that works there. Honestly, it's a pain when they won't accept a photocopy, even if it's laminated and looks like real id, but they're only doing their job. I won't dare carry around my passport or even DNI so I got the new passport card in the U.S. embassy. It's the same size as a driver's license, easy to carry around, and easy to replace if it gets stolen.

I love the look on their faces when you show them the passport card. But in real everyday life I never use it, always the US drivers license, even at supermarkets.
