Thousands of police people are out since Monday protesting for higher wages.. A 14 point petition is presented . Police Salaries in Provincia, base is $3600 pesos then have bonuses and add-on taking the salary to $36,000 Pesos...! below poverty line. Overtime forced hours are paid at $40 pesos. In CABA police people start at $50,000 pesos.

Some newscasters believe this rebellion may be what Duhalde mentioned by a Coup..? Some see it as a coup against Berni , Head of Security, whose head was getting too big. And becoming a potential Presidential Candidate..?

Also no Health coverage and must supply own uniform and bullets..!

I'll forward this to the "defund the police" people back home.

Police should be paid properly to try minimise their likelihood of becoming corrupt or taking their job seriously. Unfortunately Argentina simply doesn't have the income to support its social free shit to everyone plan so the people who actually deserve it get left out. The majority voted for this system so in some ways I only feel a bit bad... Let this be a lesson that no matter how much you think a country can print currency to pay for all their expenses it does have a consequence on society and the economy. The ONLY way to get out of these situations is to get inflation under control, stabilise the exchange rate, reduce social spending so the balance sheet is not so out of balance and incentivise people to work instead of sit at home doing nothing, big cuts to politician salaries as well. Money should be going to infrastructure spending - if people want money then they should work for it - there should be NO free lunch except to those who really do need it.. Not 20-30 year olds who can't be fucked getting out of bed.

They definitely have valid claims however we know the money is not there to do it all (People perceive that it is being used to pay for precious judicial reform and other corruption instead... priorities)

What is interesting about this is how well organised these protests are and how it came as a total surprise to Alberto and Axel, while the minister of security for the province is apparently a hardline K-man. The timing of this when society is already strained by corruption, pandemic and facing a wave of insecurity especially in the province, is certainly convenient to further highlight government shortcomings.

There was a small note this morning to say that the government is now negotiating with the CGT to increase worker and employer contributions since the obras sociales are running out of money fast due to lost employment and productivity. I know many unions are facing tense issues from workers who are upset that while their wages have decreased, their union contributions have not. Not to mention various employers already facing significant financial strain. Can imagine this creating another notch of heat under the simmering (or perhaps even boiling) pot.

So much for Peronism bringing everyone together and working with consensus...

Last night in Animales Sueltos, TV Program, a Rep of the Police Force Non-Union expressed that the Police Force in Provincia de Bs. As. i is composed of 90,000 police people. 30,000 in active Service , 30,000 off duty , and 30, 000 doing odd paid jobs..! at any given moment.

The police men I spoke to in the Provincia de Bs.As. do other paid jobs to supplement income, such as escort a Truck, night guard at a factory , body guard for money transfers , paid guard at restaurants.

A bomb was tossed inside the Olivos Presidential Residence...!

3600 pesos is, at the official rate, forty eight dollars. even the 36,000 is about 500 dollars.
Meanwhile, in Seattle, near my US home, the "defund the police" people are complaining because, last year, 375 Seattle Police officers made over TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS.
Median pay is $153,000.
But a fair amount of regular patrolmen, NOT chiefs, made between $300,000 and $400,000 last year.
This is what is getting a lot of Seattle people upset- enormous salaries, regular shootings and beatings of unarmed civilians, and a hugely disproportionate focus on black citizens for very minor crimes.

Not exactly comparable to the poverty level wages paid to the policia in the provincia.

Argentina is one big protest. Past, present and future, nothing but protesting. Why is that? Because the people here have it so bad.
