Hi

I want to bring a little regalo for a female Argentinian friend I have from the UK, but I really have no ideas.
It cant be something big as it must fit in my bags, and i was thinking of either something cute or something british cos she loves the uk for some reason.
Im really out of ideas, as bringing fish and chips in a bag doesn't really suit the bill.

Any tips??

Criteria: Small, relatively cheap

Ear rings are big here as presents. Any jewellry really, does not matter about the cost. Something feminine, they appreciate anything feminine here even if it is not exactly their taste. Little lions or something with a British symbol. Not roses particularly, because there are lots of roses jewellry here. A little leather make-up kit with some British symbol on it, or a jewelry box with the Union Jack, would also be options.

Do not buy anything practical. That is for all women, but multiply that 100 times for latinas. A nice package is nice, and if you buy a fresh red rose (cheaper here than in blighty) to accompany it when you are here, it will be the "piece de la resistance" to quote my buddy Pepe-le-Pieux.

I understand where Mendozanow is coming from with regards to feminine and not practical but it all depends on how well you know her and her interests and passions and in what sort of context you know her or expect to continue to know her too. If you see what I mean. A Chelsea football club strip may be blokey or sad but to Antonia De Sancha it took on a whole different meaning :)

So... gifts I have given to Argentine females, young and old, distant and close...

-A baking tin for jam tarts and a demonstration of how to bake a classic British jam tart
-A stoneware pudding basin which you procede to use to make a steamed syrup pudding (bring your own Lyles syrup or make do with miel de caña from the dietetica)
-A loaf tin and a huge selection of British chocolate bars (Mars, Bounty, Maltesers etc) which you then turn into the most decadent chocolate desert you have ever served with strawberries and cream. (I'll post my recipe if you want it)

-Vintage black-and-white British movies on DVD (Black and white will play on Argentine tellies. Check for subtitles/dubbing as appropriate)
-Classic groundbreaking music albums that nobody here has ever heard of. My choices would be Fairport Convention, Leige & Leif or The Imagined Village.

-Books on the Royal Family or how we live in Britain. Bookworks branches are good for that sort of thing at reasonable cost

-A complete set of the new British coinage. Can you solve the puzzle?

And something I've never given - but then I've never left the UK on the eve of a Royal Wedding - a souvenir of the forthcoming Royal Wedding.

If you want more ideas, you'll have to tell a little more about her.

Nothing says "I care about you" more than a Queen Elizabeth bobble-head doll.

thanks for the tips..

the chelsea football top made me laugh out loud!!

regards to her:

she hates sports

she wears earrings now and then and a necklace normally..has a thing about owls for some reason (buho) :s

lovess flowers and "romantic" things

she drinks tea but doesnt really like it lol

i was also thinking maybe a cute little teddy bear cos she said she didnt have one?? (good idea or bad?)

Cadbury! The kind you get within the UK is ten times better than the crap made in Argentina (or the US, for that matter, where it's made by Hershey's.) In fact, a friend of mine just gave a girlfriend a big bag of assorted candies and sweets he'd brought back from London.

A Kate and Wills cheesy royal wedding memento. Can't wait to get my hands on a tea-towel....Elhombresinnombre, please post your recipe, reminds me of the toasted mars bar sandwiches I used to make on Fridays after school.
