I live half the year in Argentina and half in Florida. The departure city makes a huge difference in fares. In other words MIA>BUE>MIA is generally better for me than BUE>MIA>BUE, but of course they are identical routes. I think this explains how the airlines can often fill the flight even though the fare seems sky from your perspective.
