Price comps?: Walmart, Makro, etc.

Walmart has definitely driven competitors out of business - they are notoriously demanding with their supply base and they force suppliers to give them the absolute lowest dollar price in exchange for volume. Smaller stores simply can't compete with those prices. Hijack over.

Re prices - when I was living in Cap Fed, chinos were always the most expensive, followed by Disco and then Jumbo. Coto was typically the cheapest although not by much.

I shop at Makro now and Carrefour and they're a little bit cheaper than the prices I was paying at Coto but not hugely. Walmart is more expensive that Carrefour/Makro and I'm not impressed with the quality.

Yeah well, my barrio sucks....if there was any chain supermarket here, things might improve. The nearest one is a tiny EKI that specialises in rotten fruit n veg...

It seems that just a little bit ago Coto as well took away their discounts specific to various banks. Now they have I believe 10% for all debit cards on Saturday. We do a huge shop once a month and freeze meat, then go maybe 1-2 times a week to get veggies. Coto for us is definitely the cheapest and you don´t have to go all the way north to Walmart.

You are correct that smaller stores cannot compete with Walmart's prices.

But when did anyone from Walmart ever go a city council and demand that the smaller stores be closed? Some "people" have demanded that Walmart be prohibited by law from opening new stores and occasionally they have been successful.

Walmart never drove anyone out of business: The people (aka customers)did as they simply stopped shopping at smaller stores with higher prices.
