Protection money?

The people here do not like to get to know the people they live around. They view everyone with mistrust and suspicion. But I have noticed that that can be different out of Capital, but I can't say whether Olivos is far enough removed from Capital to be much different.

that is not my experience at all. we own a home in palermo soho. we are best friends with our neighbors right next door, our neighbors right across the street, and our neighbors right around the corner - all argentines. they all took us under their wing when we got there, 3 years ago. we cook and eat together once a week, we see each other every day, we enjoy each other's company tremendously, and last xmas we all spent a week at the beach together. i have never had better neighbors in my life.

I just suggested to my wife that we introduce ourselves to our new neighbours and she looked at me as if I was mad.
Different culture to we Brits?
Hey GB, I am local and I do not think the neighbors would think you are weird if one afternoon or morning when they are outside washing their cars or cleaning up you introduce yourself and ask a few questions. Heck I did it in the city because I didn´t know this block I am living in very well and wanted to get some information :) I have moved about 15 times always in the city and in different neighborhoods and 90% of the time I knew my neighbors and we had a friendly relationship, they would ask for a favor every once in a while and I would do so as well. Outside of the city people are more relaxed and friendlier, so I think you should go for it ;)

Couldn't agree more!
Thanks.

On a lighter note.
We spent our first night at the new house last night.
Ok we were only camping, so to speak as we don't move for good till next weekend.
But what fun it was to roll up a couple of tatty mattresses, some sheets and a couple of pillows and doss down in a completely empty house, with just a radio.
Walked round to the local super, got some bags of ice (v hot last night and no fridge), beers and a pizza. Chucked the ice into a bucket with the beer. Job done.
There are times when going back to basics, from time to time, helps one appreciate things maybe a little more.
Did I miss the net? Telly?
Not much, as we spent the entire night talking to each other and planning our future together in the new house.
It was bliss, I have to say.
