There is a cheese store on Ave. Pueyrredón near Pacheco de Melo, in Recoleta.

Sorry about your difficulty finding cheddar. I am a cheddar fan and have found cheddar at some Discos (Avenida Quintana - near Callao) has had it, though I haven't asked for it in some time. I've also found it in the Queso al queso shops - Uruguay near Marcelo T de Alvear, for example. As for cheese in general, Tandil produces very nice cheese. It's a very nice, prosperous town in the province of BA -- worth a trip. There is a very special cheese shop/wine bar where you can pick up quite an array of fresh cheese.
