Question for Americans:Voting?

EdRooney:
The primary reason for low voter turnout in the U.S.is basically complacency.
Interestingly enough the origin of the word "idiot" in Greek is someone characterized by self-centeredness and concerned almost exclusively with private-as opposed to public affairs,
The same could also be said of most Argentines who were are yet used to participative democracy.
.De La Rua was elected as a more socialist leaning and nom-corrupt alternative to Menem.Typically Radical he had little concept of market economics and failed,He resigned as Alfonsin did before him.
In fact,no non-Peronist president has successfully completed their term
.In my view, the answer is VOTE and follow it up with participative political activity -..goal setting, monitoring and calling to account
.Macri appears to be taking this route.

Let's get back to the topic -- voting.

Hey Rodolfo Walsh, Pensador, Redbeanz, Ed Rooney, La Coqueta, Xmaspast, Roxana, Steveinbsas, TomAtAlki, Macanudo, Irina, Rich One, NYer4ever, NancyElena, citygirl, Bostoniano, and many others on this forum, you are US citizens living abroad and eligible to vote. Have you sent in your application for absentee ballot to vote in the upcoming primary and general election?

If not, now is the time to do it. It's easy. https://rockthevote.overseasvotefoundation.org/vote/home.htm

Thanks to your earlier reminder, we have our forms. Grateful to you!

Just received this email --

Janis,
As a member of Democrats Abroad, you are eligible to vote in the Global Presidential Primary. Join Democrats around the world by participating in the 2016 Presidential nominating process of the Democratic Party.

From March 1 (Super Tuesday) to March 8 -- vote in-person at one of the dozens of official Voting Centers in more than 40 countries.
The list of cities with voting centers is available online at http://www.democratsabroad.org/gpp. The detailed schedule with exact locations will be released in the coming weeks, but your local DA committee may send you that information sooner.

From January 11 to March 8 -- vote by postal mail, by fax, by email

If you cannot make it to one of those Voting Centers, you can vote by postal mail, by fax, or by attachment to an email message. Download your ballot at http://www.democratsabroad.org/gpp and follow the included instructions.

You may vote for a Presidential candidate in EITHER the Global Presidential Primary, OR your home state’s primary (or caucus if you happen to be there). When you vote in DA’s Global Presidential Primary, you may not vote for a Presidential candidate in your voting state’s primary. BUT you may still vote in your home state’s primary for US House and Senate and other down ballot races as determined by your local election official.

There are many reasons to vote for the Democratic Presidential nominee in the Global Presidential Primary rather than your home state’s primary, but the choice is yours. No matter what you decide, be sure to request your absentee ballot for the general election at www.VoteFromAbroad.org

this is not an option for us in Argentina, since there is no organization in Argentina.

Get started on the simple process of completing the form online and mailing it with your signature to the county where you are registered and get your absentee ballots.

The Democratic candidates for president will gather on Monday, January 25, for a "town hall" forum in Iowa that will be televised from 9 to 11 pm Eastern. The forum will be aired on CNN, and an online live stream will be available at CNN.com — but you'll have to log in with a cable account to see it. 11pm-1am BAtime

The event, held exactly one week before primary season voting begins with the Iowa caucuses on February 1, will be moderated by CNN anchor Chris Cuomo at Drake University in Des Moines

As you probably know, the Iowa Caucus is February 1, which is the first primary over the next few months before the national conventions.

Why vote in your state's primary election?

Because not only do you vote for a presidential candidate, you vote for the delegates who support the candidate at the national convention.

I received this email today from the county where I'm registered along with voting materials.

Dear FPCA Voter:
Due to delay in certification of candidates from the Illinois State Board of Election, ballots will not be available by the statute deadline. We will be emailing your official ballot as soon as they are available.

As prescribed by statute, we are sending a federal write-in form (FWAB) along with a specimen ballot. You may use the write-in ballot materials if you feel your official ballot will not reach us by statutory deadline. Ballots must be postmarked no later than midnight March 14th and received in our office no later than March 29th.

If you choose to complete a write-in ballot you must:
• Print attached materials
• Complete and sign the FWAB form following the directions on the second page of the form. Illinois does not require a witness or notary for the affirmation on this form.
• Vote the ballot filling in the oval to the left of the candidate of your choice or for public questions.
• Place your voted ballot in a plain envelope and write “Security Envelope” across the front of the envelope and seal.
• Place security envelope containing your voted ballot and the completed FWAB in a return mailing envelope.
• Mail to our office at 18 North County Street, Room 101, Waukegan, IL 60085.

We will hold all write-in forms and process them only if an official ballot is not received. Please note that all write-in ballots processed must be remade onto official ballots by two election judges in the office of the election authority.
=============================

The specimen ballot is attached. My state requires declaring party affiliation for the primary election.

The FWAB document is too large (four pages) to attach to this post.

If you haven't filed your FPCA where you are registered, it's time.
