Recommendations for Bedding & Linens

I'd be going to this house sale on Saturday if I needed a kingsize bed and down comforter. Those who live in Belgrano buy the best and later sell everything when they leave the country. That is why house sales are so popular here.

Regarding conforters, I didn't find nice down filled conforters here but last year I found a store where I bought a nice flannel conforter (acolchado flanel nordico) that kept me warm during all winter. You can visit the web page and look for sizes at www.duvet.com.ar/ or go to the store in Av. Corrientes 1753.

I regret buying a down comforter down here. My local dry cleaner charges $60,000 to wash it. With two small kids you can imagine how long blankets stay clean. I've learned that when it comes to beds down here, it's all about layering. Each blanket is easy to wash at home and my wife & I can regulate our temperature independently by peeling layers back.

Why not Amazon?
I saw one I liked on Mercado Libre but it was quite expensive. Then I saw the same one on Amazon for one quarter of the price and they said they'd ship it to Argentina so I ordered it but they never shipped it.

Many years ago I bought three sets of queen sheets at a house sale from an American couple who were moving to Costa Rica. I continue to use one of the three sets even though the elastic is worn out.

There are linen shops in my neighborhood, but finding the quality of those made for the US market is impossible. This was my recent experience: The packaging was impressive along with the description of the sheets. I was reminded of the old saying: "If it's too good to be true, it usually is" and I still fell for his salesmanship.

I opened the zippered plastic case at home and found the truth on the labels. When passing by the linen shop recently, I entered to speak with the owner about the scam by Terrenal. He put on a good act as if he was unaware of the actual product he sells that is falsely labeled as something it is not. This is a warning for anyone shopping for bed linens. I paid 50.000ARS for cheap polyester sheets from China. Live and learn!

I bought a set of US$70,00 all-cotton Arredo sheets in Uruguay. They turned out to be so rough and scratchy, that they were practically unusable. Good only to cover stored furniture and the dog's bed.

Reminds me of brands that push "vegan leather" as if it's not literally plastic at a luxury price.

I'm sorry that this happened to you! A good word of warning to us all!
