Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because we’re looking for a recommendation.

We just bought our apartment here in Buenos Aires and are planning a complete renovation of both the kitchen and the bathroom.

Do you happen to know anyone reliable who could take on this kind of work? Ideally, we’re looking for someone who does quality work at a fair price — not the cheapest, but definitely not overpriced either.

We’d really appreciate any tips or contacts you can share!

Thanks so much in advance.

Howdy German,

I would suggest getting in touch with @floridamedellin. He's currently renovating his apartment and probably can offer some references and tips.

Maybe you contact my nefew Brian. He does this kind of jobs since he is (almost) an architect.
He was born in beatiful California. PM for more info.

Hello,

My previous post might have been unclear, as I received many offers for cheap work, which is exactly what I’m not looking for.
Or people offering me their familys work...

In Germany, I would typically visit a market or IKEA to purchase a standard fitted kitchen.
However, I haven’t found a similar option here.

I’m looking for a reliable, standard kitchen solution that’s not too expensive and doesn’t need to be anything special.
How would you go about finding this?

There are many shops that sell finished kitchen fixtures and furnitures.
If you do not find what you like or need, there are plenty of carpentry shops
that will make them to you specs. I know some of them.

Barugel and Blaisten sell fixtures- toilets, bath tubs, sinks. Johnson just sells sinks- and they carry them at Barugel.
There are other places that sell appliances- refrigerators, stoves, and so on. I find Rodo has a good selection and good prices.
Then, there are cabinetmakers that will build and install all the cabinets- both bath and kitchen.
In addition, you need a plumber, and, probably, an electrician.
There is a cluster of these in the area of Cordoba between Dorrego and Juan B Justo- big Barugel and Blaisten on Juan B Justo, and several kitchen cabinet showrooms on or near cordoba.

There is no big cheap place like Ikea- but plenty of places will build to fit- which, considering the oddities of argentine buildings, is usually necessary. It depends on where you live, but there are a lot of stores like this in Recoleta, near santa fe and 9 de julio.
Here, you will need to deal with one company to do the stone counter tops, another to build the cabinets, another for the appliances.
We recently did a kitchen, and used Aterat, on Cordoba, which is mid range in terms of price, made to measure. If you are up in the north, say, Pilar, I am sure there are very high end choices, as well.
Or, there are basic pre-built cabinets on Mercado libre, but for the price, I would go with custom- the particle board stuff on Mercado Libre is worse than Ikea, and, having installed Ikea stuff in the US, I can say its not really high quality.

Barugel and Blaisten sell fixtures- toilets, bath tubs, sinks. Johnson just sells sinks- and they carry them at Barugel.

Johnson Acero, besides steel sinks and countertops, has its own line of good quality particle-board cabinets. Check the link.

Barugel sells bathroom fixtures and ceramic tile, and has a design department where they custom-plan whole kitchens and bathrooms.

But there is nothing like a skilled carpenter. We hired one to custom-build our kitchen and walk in closet, and could not be happier. He used some kind of very dense particle board, water resistant and very sturdy, nothing like the weaker board in Ikea's furniture.

As students we loved IKEA, and furnished our home there - very pretty stuff but transitional, designed to sell for a low price and last about five years. None of our furniture survived, but we still have the wrought-iron lamps we got there, and their sturdy Mexican glassware. And still miss their Swedish meatballs....!

Thank you very much..
It looks like Ateret is ecactly what we have been looking for.
Is there something similar like that for bathrooms?
