Has anyone found places in Buenos Aires that offer car rentals with automatic drive?
Also, does a U.S. drivers license suffice or is anther type of document needed to drive legally in Argentina? Thanks!

Yes, your US drivers license will be enough. Not sure about the automatic.

Yes your US license is okay.
Avis had automatics a few years ago. More expensive than standard for sure. Try the big companies - Avis, Hertz, etc.

I got it for $50 a day from Budget last year. There are also several firms on Cerrito and A.V. Libertad, the last block.

Cerrito and Libertad are parallel - do you mean Cerrito and Liberatador?
